What did you do to your bike today?

Sanded the places where I repaired the cracks in the fairing pieces and put on 2 coats of paint. Finished tightening the nuts holding on the new oil cooler. Crimped on the new quick disconnects for the side fairing turn signals and installed the side panels and the bottom skirt.

Went for a 30 minute check ride to fill up on gas and see how she handles at low speed and freeway. Purrfect!:D

I installed a garage door opener remote and wired it to my high beam switch. So now as I'm approaching my house, a quick blink of my high beams opens up the door for me to ride right in...AWESOME!!

The only thing that sucks now is all someone needs to do to break into my garage is shine a flashlight at it!! j/k (I saw that as a response to a youtube vid where a guy did the high beam mod) I thought it was too funny not to share.

You should do a how to :)

I've been thinking about this a lot, adding the garage door opener to the system.

The problem I see is that while yes it would be nice to have integrate it into an existing switch it would be much smarter to add in an extra "button" to your bars. A simple momentary switch would provide an ideal situation without adding into any other systems that might cause problems down the road.

there are plenty of ways to mold a housing for a switch. JB weld is a very good, simple and viable option. Just place a release agent onto the surface you want to mount it to and then mold the JB Weld to the portion of the bars you want to have the switch at, then use a simple pipe clamp to attach it, placing a piece of rubber as a backing so it doesn't scratch the bars up. Then proceed to molding the switch into a nice little housing and adding more jbweld as you like. Once finished, use a dremel to smooth things out and then paint it. place it back on the bars once painted and you'll have a nice looking switch that you can wire whatever you like to it. Yeah it might be a pain to reach for the switch but you don't need it until you are in the driveway anyway..... Also it would be preferable to mount it to the throttle side as it would allow for you to hold the clutch when pulling into the driveway

As far as using the high beam, I still can. I did not disconnect the switch from the high beam. I simply used a relay that is activated by turning on the high beam. When the coil of the relay is energized, it connects the terminals on the board of the remote that need to be connected to make it transmit.

This also does not add any significant load to the motorcycle's electrical system. Only 200 mA to power the relay. Another bonus is no matter how long you hold in the button on the remote, (or leave high beam on) it will only transmit ONE time. So this means I could turn on the high beam when leaving home, garage door shuts, ride around without touching switch again, come home and then I would have to turn high beam off then briefly on again to open the door. I hope this clarifies things a bit.

I wish I was more capable of doing things like this, but that sounds very cool and a neat mod!

A relay is always a nice thing to use but I still don't like the idea of flicking my high beam to hit the remote. I'd rather just hit a separate button and be done with it. Plus I have a ton of JB weld tubes, pipe clamps and rubber to use up... lol. I even have a small box of momentary switches I need to start using... I got them at a sale for a relocating radioshack... lol. they didn't want to have to box up all their supplies so they were selling boxes of stuff for cheap. I have a lot of supplies related from that day. I need a good parts organizer system to start putting them all in, so I don't have to go through the tons of little cardboard boxes I have all over the place.
I thought it was pretty cool too. I still might even install a remote start on this bike if for no other reason than the fact that I can. I have a spare one that I'm not using so it's not like it would cost me anything, except some time.
remote start is a nice add. The alarm system I'm getting will have that. I just need to make sure that I leave the bike in neutral when I want to use it.. lol.

I would use a SPDT relay to break the starter wire from the remote start system, then use the wire for the neutral light to power the coil of the relay to bring continuity back to that wire. That way, if the remote start is activated, and you forgot to leave it in neutral, no worries, cause the starter wire is only connected if the bike's in neutral.

very true but the system I was looking at already has that included. So need to add it. I was just saying that I would have to brake myself of the habit of leaving it in gear so it can't be moved around.

Added on some T-Rex Spool Adapters and a PIAA horn. Both were a pain in the ass to install. The bracket for the horn just didn't line up properly in order for it to work. I basically had to rig it up using a combination of the new bracket and the old one. I will say it is much much loader then the original. As I said the T-Rex adapters were also a pain to install. You got to be perfect in getting those holes to lineup so that you don't strip the threads on the bolts. I was kind of pissed they sent me the wrong spools too. I ordered the orange ones and they sent me black. I shot them an email to see what they will do to correct the issue, so we'll see.

Anyway, here are pics
