Lowered her a bit

So this weekend my good buddy BuffaloJump helped me lower my front end a bit on my bike. He figured out some pretty innovative ways to make it work despite not having every tool available. Here's what we did:

He has a rear stand but it is made to be used on spools which I don't have so he put some wood under the swing arm and the stand had just enough grip to grab the wood and lift the rear end...worked perfect. The we rolled the front tire up onto some more pieces of wood to get the bike off the ground. He swung a heavy duty tow rope over the rafters in his garage and then used tie downs wrapped under the triple to hold the front end up so we could remove the wood under the front tire. Bam! Bike is suspended.

Then we used the wood plank to hold up the tire so when we loosened the clamps on the triple it wouldn't just fall out. We used a rubber mallet to slowly bump the bottom end of the shocks to raise it up 10mm. Re-tightened to specs and now it is lowered just under a half inch (which I hear is plenty.)

The end result was surprising! Looks way lower than 1/2 and inch. The ride is the same if not better as far as I have noticed so far. Looks a lot cleaner and meaner if you ask me. I am stoked!

Looks good man! Yeah these things are begging for the front to be lowered. The front of mine is lowered 1.75" and I have felt no negative side effects.of course I got the lowering link too.

That's similar to how I took the weight of my shock to remove it. I had it up on a rear stand and used a 1000LB ratchet strap over a ceiling joist and around the frame below the seat. Ratcheted it up just enough to take the pressure off the shock and out she came.

I picked up a triple tree stand for $70 that is awesome for getting the front wheel up. Makes any fork work a breeze.

If you go as low as I did, 10mm or just under half an inch, I highly doubt there would be any issues. The shock will have the same amount of travel and you have 5 or more inches before you hit the front fender or anything. I'd say go for it but don't hold me responsible

Just loosen the bolts on the triple around the forks, slide the triple down and tighten back up. Takes 10 mins. Get a tape measure and make sure everything is even.

Well if you do that and loosen the bolts too much the triple will just slam the front end down. I would recommend using something to hold up the bike to avoid doing that.

Looks great! I lowered my front a little over 1.5 inches and I love it. Before this mod I was tempted to trade her in for an SS. I now have ergos I want on the perfect street bike.

So did you lower the rear too? I've read that lowering the front too much without lowering the rear can really have a bad effect on the riding dynamics.

next week im lowering my front if the apex cant squeeze in soo im curious if the 1 inch will be to bad without the rear

I recall seeing several fz6r lowered quite a bit in the front without the rear being lowered and haven't heard anything negative about it. I know super streetbike mag lowered theirs alot in the front and that guy from Brazil on here with the slick black bike has done it. I don't think it will effect the bike too much as it sits too high to begin with.it will sit more like a supersport. I wouldn't go over a 1.5 inches though.
