I just did this same mod a few days ago. Did you get a different kickstand? I noticed the bike, due to being lowered, is a little more up right. Almost as it would tip over easy. Your thoughts?
Just finished this mod yesterday, but I had the same thoughts. Interested in responses. In my garage where it's flat and even I don't have any issues, but of course the parking lots we park in...well they aren't always.I just did this same mod a few days ago. This I don't know, simply because the pedals aren't moved at all. However, after a quick ride yesterday I do feel like the bike has a more aggressive feel to it, leaning more than previous, but not too much as to hurt your back like an R6 or something. If you had to compare the riding position of this mod to an OEM bike, which would it come closest to? (R6, Ninja 650, cbr500r, or any other model?)
Here are some more detailed pictures.. not sure what you want to see, but let me know and I can snag some:@eskimo
Could you take some photo to us ? I wanna learn more detail as front fork position. Did you increase their position for more spacing to assembly ? How many cm did you move up ? roughly
Can I do this modification with myself ?
thank you in advance.
It looks to me like your entire right assembly is too close to the mount. I would suggest moving the assembly down the bar so your grips line up with the end of the bar and only the bar end sticks out. I would think having the two grips mounted differently would cause handling problems. As far as the woodcraft bars go - has anybody added any longer grips? I'm not satisfied with how the bars look because of the small size of the stock grips for the throttle and left side, also how about bar ends? Any good recommendations for either part? Thanks in advance!
I got Suzuki heavy bar ends meant for smooth installation (no threads). Have had them since I did my clip-ons (about 2 or 3 years). Actually just got kuryakyn iso grips and have kuryakyn throttle lock bar ends to go with them. Didn't get them on yet since I just got them. Just search amazon for heavy bar ends that aren't threaded and fit 7/8 diameter bar. Here are some more detailed pictures.. not sure what you want to see, but let me know and I can snag some:

Side shot of the clip ons (don't mind the nicks)
And side shot, not sure if you can tell how much lower the bike is now, but it's certainly a good deal lower

I agree. Have same bars and that would probably be awkward. Wonder why the throttle grip is up so far on the bar.It looks to me like your entire right assembly is too close to the mount. I can't slide it down further, I feel like the wires and cables are taught and don't have my slack to slide further down.. am I missing something to do with the wires/cables?I agree. Have same bars and that would probably be awkward. Wonder why the throttle grip is up so far on the bar.

I don't think I did anything to my cables. Maybe there's slack being held by a zip tie or something. Mine is much closer to the end of bar. I didn't change cables or anything. Might have finessed them a bit. Just put the Kuryakyn grips and throttle control bar ends on. Wow, much more comfy grip. Just need to let the hairspray dry good. Hoping it holds, didn't want to use the glue that comesee with them ,because it sets super fast and is permanent until you pry them off somehow. Hairspray worked well for my spider grips.I can't slide it down further, I feel like the wires and cables are taught and don't have my slack to slide further down.. am I missing something to do with the wires/cables?

I checked around, tried re-routing some cables and viola I was able to get just enough slack to shift it further downI don't think I did anything to my cables. I can get a pic tomorrow after work. I never changed my kick stand and have had no issues. Does stand pretty upright, but plenty stable.I checked around, tried re-routing some cables and viola I was able to get just enough slack to shift it further down
Also after some riding this afternoon I decided that I'm about 85% confident in the stock kickstand after lowering the front end for the mod. I'm going to look around for an adjustable one online.
See for yourself, two quick pit stops
Not as drastic a lean as prior to lowering.
also @Scott_Thomas - thanks for your help, any chance you can post a pic of your grips and bar ends? Curious to see what they look like!
Much appreciated! I'll keep an eye out, I do have to say your bike is the reason I went with the mod (and my accident last summer)!I can get a pic tomorrow after work. I never changed my kick stand and have had no issues. Does stand pretty upright, but plenty stable.

What mirrors are on your bike.... they look awesomeFirst post figured I would make it a good one. I was over the dirt bike handle bars on my fz I was more interested in a R6 but the price on a brand new FZ was just too attractive to pass up and I do love the Bike just do not care for the upright position.
The questions were annoying as well, why does your R6 have handlebars?
Is that a 300? "no" then why does it have bars?
So for those of you who feel like me this was a super easy mod.
(THE BIKE MUST BE LOWERED 1.5" IN THE FRONT IN ORDER TO CLEAR NEW BARS)
Cost : $170 for woodcraft clip on (41mm 1.5 risers) purchased from revzilla.com
tools: most of everything can be done with the tools provided in the bikes tool kit. you will need an allen key set for the clip on's as well as for the bottom triple tree clamp bolts.
I removed the upper fairings carefully removing the push pins and 4 allen bolts that old the upper (in this case black) fairings on.
Then removed accessories from handlebars, then unbolt bars slowing accessories to slide off.
(you may want to purchase new grips at this time, the left one is adhered to the bar and is a real bugger to remove. If you're good it is re-useable.)
take one half of your clip on clamps and place it on the under side of the triple tree on the fork to give you your 1.5" measurement, mark with a sharpie.
Doing one side at a time, first loosen the bottom fork clamp 1 full turn.
then loosen the top fork about 3/4 of a turn, then grabbing the fork shaft with hand twist firmly back and forth, the fork will begin to slide up in the journal. Proceed to re-torque allen bolt clamps into appropriate position then move on to the other side, lowering in the same manner.
(be careful if loosened too much the fork my abruptly slide up pinching your hand. so mark your bolt heads if you're unsure of your workmenship)
***NOTE** be sure to unbolt horn and rotate counter clockwise about 1/4 turn to clear fairing during full turning.
install clip on's on top of fork shaft that is now exposed over the triple tree. install accessories onto new handlebars,
**TIP** do not completely tighten the new handlebars until you have turn forks 100% both ways being sure to clear fairing. windscreen and top of upper fairings.
Hope this was helpful
I have 05-08 Zx6r mirrors (not oem). Oem Zx6r mirrors would be much more expensive. Very good visibility Imo, only 2nd in visibility to stock which look hideous. EBay or Amazon are great placeso to find them. Mine are carbon fiber (well they look like cf). What mirrors are on your bike.... they look awesome
