Sprocket & Chain Group buy.


I was late to the game and called Tyler to get in on the group buy this morning, before Marthy posted the disappointing update. Tyler seemed like an upstanding guy, and was genuinely sorry about the issue, though it does not seem to be his fault.

Personally, I am in need and the Group Buy is still a good deal. I've never messed with the drive ratio on my bikes and I've a couple questions that maybe someone can answer for me:

Assuming one opts for the 17/47 how much change in the speedo are we talking? Closer to true, or farther from true? It took quite a while for me to get my mental map down of what my speedo is reading and what I'm probably actually running, without having to do the math in my head.

Secondly does anyone have a feel for how much torque loss I'd be looking at? Is it a lot, so that I'd feel like she was dragging when I took off from a stop? Or do you think it'd be basically unnoticeable? I know that's subjective, but I was wondering if anyone with experience changing the drive ratio had an opinion on it.

From 16/46 to 17/46 you get the 5 MPH that the speedo is off. 17/47 is about 2 MPH off from 16/46. Not something you should feel much. The lost in acceleration is not that bad with the 17/46... can't see it being very noticeable with 17/47.

Even 16/47 is about 1 MPH shorter than 16/46 @ 6K RPM in top gear.

Good Question.. Being the RPMS that Marthy listed and that he stated before you dont notice any difference between the 16/46 and the 17/46, and the 17/47 give you 200more rpm at 70 than the 17/46 I would think that it would be unnoticable. But I would be very interested to hear what our gear heads think on this! The Speedo is actually a big concern for me too, so Pending what find out my decision may change.

Well, guess this was answered. while I was busy with something that popped up and work between when I started this post to when able to finish it! :)

So just to confirm that at about 60 the speedo will be off now be like 3mph instead of about 5 or so?

Well, before the group buy Tyler got on the phone with Driven to make sure they will be able to supply the demand and they confirm him that they had all the sprocket in stock.

There story has change. They are in short supply of the 46T rear sprocket. Waiting list is around 45 days or so.

So here's some numbers for you.

@ 70 MPH:

16/46 = 6500 RPM
17/46 = 6100 RPM
17/47 = 6300 RPM
16/47 = 6650 RPM

So 17/47 is kind right in the middle.

Personally I'm fine with a 17/47. That will give me a bit more acceleration and still bring the rpm down a bit.

Tyler feel really sorry about this and I understand that it's out of his control too. He said that regardless if people don't want the 47T rear or not he will respect the group buy event if some of us might want to get out of the deal.

If some of you don't mind maybe Tyler can look out for a standard 46T instead of a light one, or aluminum.

You guys let me know who's still in or not.

I called Tyler and went with 16/47. Call me a rebel, LOL.
 
Got Super excited because I saw it shipped and for some reason the email said expected delivery Friday 5/3 or Monday 5/6. Thought that was insanely fast with where they are compared to me, but hey, maybe they did express delivery. Thinking there was a CHANCE I could put my Radiator guard on this weekend. Then I checked the tracking # today on UPS and it says expected delivery Wednesday 5/8. :(

Ohh well, Still good service from Solo and excited about the package coming!
