for long distance rides

anyone here gone on a long distance ride?
I'm looking for some ideas on how to make my ride more comfortable. Basically I have stock parts aside from the two bros exhaust, juice box, c wereks fender elim, k&n air filter. I mainly used my bike for city rides but I have this job coming up that requires me to travel to and from out of town work for more than a month.

Looking at travelling 1.5 hrs everyday to and from out of town work; gotta go where the money is right?

any ideas? hand guards, windscreen, cruise control, weighted bar ends? whatever helps, thanks guys!

I have only taken one long distance ride so I can't help too much. I do however go for 2 or 3 hour rides with friends around twistes and such. I think the cruise control would be awesome. That was the worst part IMO.

Your bike should be fine as is. If there's anything I might suggest some sort of water proof luggage to put some valuable. The Puig Touring screen is nice if wind bother you. If it gets hot a camel pack is not a bad idea if you want to drink while riding.

I put a double bubble windscreen on to help with the helmet buffeting. The only other things I would change now are a throttle lock, and a more padded seat. I sink down to the seat pan way too quickly on the stock one.

you will have no issues, that's about my commute some days. I wouldn't even bother with cruise control. If you have a FE and expect to ride in rain, you'll want good rain gear or your back is going to get nasty.

Some things I have done:

Yamaha double bubble - yeah, that or a touring screen will help with bugs and wind.

Oxford heated grips - even for just a slight chill, these things make it bearable for that short of a distance, I'd say for longer than 2 hours, hand guards a must as well.

Charging port/Power port - Gotta keep those devices charged

I'm in the process of adding a sena smh10r to my helmet, also a nice feature, but not mandatory.

for those really hot days, sitting in traffic, a camel back or other water pack is a must, you do not want to get heat exhaustion, even on an hour or so ride.

I have a Vista Cruise throttle lock on my bike and love it. It's nice for the highway so I can loosen my grip on the bars and not slow down or occasionally rest my hand. I just had carpal tunnel surgery in both wrists and have bad elbow tendonitis so anything helps. Vista Cruise is cheap and easy to install. Reviews are mixed, but if you install it correctly it works well and is easy to install. +1 on the Sena. I have the SMH5-2 and love it. I don't use it for phone calls, but I have a stem nut ram mount x grip to hold my Note 3 and listen to my spotify music via bluetooth. I upgraded my speakers even before installing to the larger smh10 speakers and love it. Can't ride without some tunes. I have volume just loud enough to hear the music, but I can also hear my bike and cars around me. If that's what you are using it for you'll love it. Works well for phone calls, I just don't do it.

You can use a tailbag to make a backrest.Mine was to far back to lean against, so I filled a cheap nylon cooler with padding and zip tied it to the front of my tail bag.

Wear ear plugs. I never wear them around town but always wear them for highway trips. They will lessen fatigue and make the ride more pleasant. Also, I can still hear everything just fine with the plugs in but they really do help lessen wind noise.

You only need to find the way make the seat more comfortable. It's the only issue I found in a 5 hours trip.

pictures are too funny. i would def. recomend new seat as my first mod for a long trip. after about 30 minutes on the stock i start to get fidgety and after 2 hours its outright pain. search threads for dirt road custom to check out my custom seat and where to get yours done.

Power port - on my list of things to do

SMH10R - I've got a few plus and minus about it. Overall love it, but at highway speeds you gotta crank it full blast and MAYBE you hear it. Even if you don't, it will fatigue you faster. I just ordered the little adapter to use earbuds with it. SMH10R + phone GPS = win!
