I think what you're seeing is the support for the dash and instrument cluster. You can see that he has some of the plastic panels removed in the pics.
Don't recall mine looking like that.

I made a custom too!! 
best news is it was free!!! Cut 3 to 4 inches of stock and painted black. What do y'all think? Just wanted to share. Beats spending 80$

I had to remove all the panels to be able to drill and add 1 rubber dromet by the mirror to hold the windscreen in place. I wasn't thinking about selling them, it was just one of those project i started just to keep me busy when I'm bored. But if some of you are interested i can build a few. The problem is there's about $45.00 in material only and it take me about a solid 6 hrs to build one so it's kind of difficult to come up with a price that will be fair. Let me think about a way to make it a cheaper way so it can be affordable.
By the way anybody notice my new handlebar? The combination of handlebar and windscreen is awesome! I can go all day long with my fiance at 80 mph! No pain in my neck and shoulder Anyone have a tip for numb finger (RH only?)

Yah my friend made a deal that you use your wrist for throttle instead of hand, he has a patent on it. I will take some pics of it. It just clamps to the throttle and will slide up to adjust but when pushed down grabs tighter to turn the throttle, it pivots side to side to fit your palm/wrist better as well.
Ok... Here's the latest version of my 26" windscreen. Not quite done yet. I still need to massage it some more here and there. Some of you might think that it look weird right in front of the handlebar, well your right! Still thinking about it. It's easier to cut off material then adding on... But since this is a Touring version, well I need hand protection. (not a bad thing here in Florida when it rain every other day)
I should be able to get it done later on today (except the handlebar area, need a good road test first) Take those pics as a teaser...

I went for a ride with my new 26" windscreen after work. I had way too much flex going on at freeway speed. So I got a quick bite and went back to work. I kind of expect that because I did that little radius on top to kick the air up. So far I've been struggling to bow the windscreen and do that radius on top. Not easy to bend 2 radius 90 degree from each other. Well, those days are thing of the past... part of getting experience. So now I bow the windscreen enough to keep it from flexing and figure out how to be able to add that radius on top. Look sick and work great up to about 55-60 mph. After that it get a little more noisy. All I need to do is add some more radius on top and it should be perfect!!!
AAAHHHHHHH!!!! So nice! Well this is it. The 26" windscreen is complete. I might smooth out few more edges later on (I need a windscreen brake...) It look absolutely sick. After riding all I have to say is this is the way a Sport Touring Windscreen should be on this bike! Compare to my 24" the noise is down about 25%. Just enough breeze on top of my helmet to get some air in the vent. I can turn my head and nothing happen... Completely got rid of the turbulence. Now it's not any worst than driving a car with the window open a little. I add some more bow to it, no more flexing and flopping at all. Also, if you notice the handlebar air deflector. I hit the sweet spot right on the first try! The air goes about 4" above, 4" under the grip and goes right at the end of the bar.
So for me this is the end of the windscreen journey. It was an interesting and expensive project (and not counting my hoursss). But I got it done right! I will decide about my 24" windscreen this week, just not sure yet if I'm going to keep it as spare or auction it. That might be a piece of history... as far as I know the 24" was the first FZ6R touring screen (not counting the prototype in early August)

Great! The new 26" screen pass the final test, it's a keeper! Took a good ride with my lovely wife tonight and everything is fine. So now I might have a 24" screen for sale if any of you are interested. It's a 24" screen tinted. Nothing wrong with it, I just decide to make a taller one. Understand that this windscreen is home made with a few flaws... but anybody with some fabrication skills can smooth out few edges and make it look better. There's about $45.00 in material and a good 6 to 10 hrs of labor into it. Sold as is, with south florida bugs on it. LOL Just kidding, I'll clean it.
Or maybe if you have something to trade in? Good used Fender Eliminator maybe... something I can use with stock turn signals.

Well, now that I'm happy with my exhaust and map... I considering building another windscreen. I really like the one on the new VFR. Kind of double stack... My 26" is lovely. But I like to have some air o cool me down... (summer is coming here in Florida) and still deflect air so I can keep my head attach to my shoulder. So I just ordered a sheet of tint plexiglass... here I go again...

LOL....nothing is ever "final"...am I right! As a fellow floridian, I was wondering about the lack of airflow. Sounded awesome to me at first as well, cause we all know a stock FZ6R is noisy and windy at highway speeds. But dang, florida is H...O....T Hot in the summer, and I have to admit I need all the airflow I can get starting about this time of year until octoberish.... I will be interested to see what you come up with as a "Final" solution! Maybe 2, a winter screen and a summer screen to swap back and forth between seasons???
