Gun Talk Thread

Unfortunately, there are areas of the U.S. where violent crimes are pretty high. So there is a need or desire to be able to protect oneself from such crimes. Additionally, it has been shown that areas that do not permit citizens to carry a firearm, such as Chicago, IL, have higher crime rates. Many states regulate who can lawfully carry a firearm, but unfortunately criminals do give a damn about following the law. So carrying a firearm gives individuals a way to protect themself and their family in the moment, rather than waiting for an officer to show up minutes later.

Carrying a firearm is a great responsibility, and most individuals treat it as such. Crimes committed by lawfully carrying people are rare, but they do occur, just not as much as by people carrying illegally. It's like a condom, I'd like to have one and not need it, than need it and not have one.

Thanks for that, I guess your right and it's better to protect yourself than be left wondering what would happen if u didn't. & I like the comparison at the the end, made me laugh a bit. :)

You, Americans, are just crazy... Buying a gun at Walmart or just mailing. It with USPS? I wish I could do the same... Would I do that? No. Even though I had three guns (legal), I wish no more such responsibility. Only live I want to held full responsibility for is my own (and a little more for my little baby girl and only till she's still a kid). But have such right is just awesome

so as not to drag on a FS thread...

IMHO, kids should be taught to respect guns, not just told, don't touch them (I know what I did as a kid when I was told not to touch something...). Having several pistols and other various rifles, I taught my kids very young how to approach them, what to do if they came across one or another kid with one, etc. I didn't have any rifles / pistols growing up, but my Uncle was a hunter, so I had plenty of exposure whenever I visited my cousins, almost every week.

I know a few people who have had bad experiences and don't want anything to do with them... I respect that... I also know others who I've taken to a range with me that very soon after, go the itch to get their own..

feel free to add to teh conversation now :)
I've being to a shooting range before with rifle and pistol. It was fun but not enough to make me buy one.

(I do like to shoot people on COD :) and my son with his little nerf gun)

It is nice to know that we can protect ourselves with equal force if the need ever came down to it. Stricter gun laws only hurt lawful citizens. Criminals do not obey gun laws (thats why they are criminals). So as long as guns are out there and being used in crimes, I will use one to defend myself. A bat or a knife does not do much against a bullet or other deadly weapon. Distance is your best friend.

My responsibility lies in protecting myself and my family. I will do so at all costs. This is a crazy world we live in, that's for sure. The day we lose that right will be a very very bad day. It will not cause any less violence, crime, murder, etc. We will all become victims. When criminals know citizens are unarmed, they are fearless. We do not want that.

No fully auto unless they are pre ban and manufactured I believe before 1986. I could be wrong on the year. TONS of regulation and tax stamp to legally own. Cost is VERY high.

You also can get post ban automatics, but you have to go through all the hoops to become in possession of a Class 3 dealer license if I'm not mistaken, which is also a ton of money lol;)

No questions about having the right, but what bothers me that you can buy it anywhere just because you want it. I think (and as I did it) person who wants a gun shall go through some courses how to store and use it with complex examination on that. And I do agree the possibility that a victim caries a gun greatly reduces the chances of crime. US politic once said that weapon is an insurance that government won't do stupid things (sorry for bad quote)

I just saw a movie where a guy buys an Uzi with only driver license. So I was wandering if it is documentary or fake. I think that was Arizona or Arkazas.

Way oversimplified for what they do in Illinois at least. I had to give my Drivers License #, Name, DOB, Address, a bunch of questions if I was a legal US citizen and to see if I was a crazy person or not, along with a background check through the state police. Then had to wait 3 days to pick up the pistol after that.

Pretty sure nowhere in the US can you just waltz into a store, purchase the gun and walk out with it right then an there, most places have the waiting period and that whole list of crap you have to fill out.

Yeah, they all have to run through the checks. Some states have waiting periods and some do not though. Many states allow Face to Face deals where no background check is necessary. You do not have to go through a dealer to verify the buyer is not a criminal if it is a private party sale between two individuals in the same state.

Yeah that is definitely not how that would work.
I do not question anything you say, and even more I'd trust you more. Just curious how it does work for such weapon

Since it is a full auto, it falls under the regulations I posted earlier about tax stamp and lots of hoops to jump through. Definitely not a same day thing.
