FZ6R Upgrade Time

Alright guys wanted your opinion on something. I joined the Army and when I get out of BCT and AIT I will have plenty of money for a new bike. I have been with my FZ6R for about 2 years. Haven't got to ride much this summer because the auto shop has had my bike for 2 months because some lady pulled out in front of me. I am looking at getting Yamaha R6 or R1. So based off what you have seen which of them do you prefer. I would like a 600 so that it is easier to ride on the streets and gives me plenty of power and better control. On the other hand I want an R1 for anytime I go drag racing plus I think the sound of a R1 is amazing. Both bikes are very gorgeous, I may lean a little more towards look of an R6 but light the projectors of the R1. So what do you guys think? R1 or R6?

EDIT: My bike will be sexy when I get her back today from the shop. The big old scrap down the side I got from my first time dropping her will be gone and she will be as good as new.

Just went to the dealer last night. I set on the bike, they didn't have one to road test, it will be back saturday and I 'll be there to ride and see it.

The numbers are great. I'll be paying $60 more than I was paying for the fz6r for a bike that is almost 3 times the price.

Just need 2 approvals. The bank and the wife.. I'll keep you guys posted.

If approved I'm gonna try to sell the 6R first because they are only giving me $5k for the trade in. :(

How does the tax work? In Canada, if I took $5K on a trade, I wouldn't have to pay tax on the $5K as it is deducted from the new price before the tax is calculated, so it would be the same as selling the bike for $5650.

In jersey you don't pay taxes on a trade in.

I would think that the R1 would actually be a better street and city bike due to it having way more torque everywhere. If you keep the revs down and short shift somewhat (and if you have self control) I personally think it would be more fun on the street. Of course you have about a 30 pound weight penalty which would offset that torque advantage. Depends on the way you ride.

Sounds like you just describe all the good points of the FZ1

Riding the R1 is like riding a furnace ~ it's uncomfortably hot. Unless you have another bike you like to ride when you're sick of being toasted on the R1, I'd give it a pass.
