Speedmetal HID LIght Kit

Got my cycle gear catalog and page 28 has a nifty looking HID kit that is supposed to be plug and play about as easy as changing the stock H4 bulb with the HID bulb and wiring in (crimp, not cut) an adapter. What really seems to be cool is the price - $54.99 (50% off).

Any thoughts before I order?

The H4 (which is the right size for us) retains the hi/low-beam function which is essential for me for spotting deer eyes at night.

Anywhere from 15-40 miles (pending what way take home Slab or cnty rds) are farm fields full of corn each way. I wanted the best chance of seeing Babmi before I become one with him, or anything else for that matter.

You want the 35w. DDM has a pretty good reputation, if you didnt want to go for the projector style.

Then you want between 4300-5k, 6k is still nice and white but with a smidge of blue. These are closest to natural light. Above 5k you begin to get more tinges of blue. Somewhere on here I was told about anything above 6k and you begin to lose some visibility, especially in fog/rain.

Without retrofitting a projector, isn't the light going to be blinding to other drivers? Better visibility is good, but pissing people off and getting pulled over suck.

Yes, HID's without projectors are blinding, because they are so much brighter than stock, the reflector doesn't direct the light correctly. A projector is the way to direct the light correctly, and not blind anyone. To me, HID's without projectors aren't worth the time and effort.

I never use my brights with HIDs on my other vehicle(s) so I'm going to go with a 5k single kit from DDM, $25 plus shipping.

Good point about blinding other drivers, which is bad for us. HID w/out projector project officially scrapped.

question about these hid kits, specifically the ddm one. did you need a relay wired up so it automatically comes on when the bike is turned on? or do you have to flick your high beam on so it comes on? or does it automatically come on? only asking because on my car i have a single bulb but its "dual beam" so for my hids to come on i have to hit my high beam on.

If you do the HID only, it should be low beam and high beam. All the wiring will be in the harness and ballast. It is plug and play, easy installation. Wish the retrofits were easier, then maybe more people would do that, instead of wasting time/money on a HID bulb kit.
