As some of you know, I am in route to Oregon from Virginia. Just got caught in a blizzard in Nebraska

I have my bike in the bed of my truck and am towing a 6x12 trailer. We got here last night. Heard they were closing down the freeway and decided to stay the night here in this motel. Woke up this morning hoping the freeway would be open, just to find almost a foot of snow right outside.

I put my bike cover on my bike in the truck last night. Didnt work too well as the tie down straps are in the way, but I got it sturdy on there. So I thought. I go out in the snow to get some stuff out of the truck just to see my bike (WITH NO COVER ON IT!) completely covered in snow. The cover must have blown off somehow in the middle of the night...

This snow going to hurt the bike at all? I can see the chain and rotors are already getting some surface rust on them.

This has been an adventure for sure. Im sick of driving. I drove 10 hours Wednesday and 13 hours straight by myself yesterday. Looks like I will lose a day and be stuck in the motel until tomorrow. Everything is supposed to be cleared up and gone tomorrow. I hope.

I'll snap some pics in a min...

I tried a tarp and my cover. No matter what I did, I couldnt get it strapped on without it trying to blow off while driving or slapping my bike severely. I already have a nice mark on the side of my fairing from it slapping. Just had to take it off. Been raining non stop since we left. Now snow. Sucks...

Here are a couple pics, and a video! :D Unblock Youtube so you can see it real quick Dart :D

Here we are when everything is loaded up:

Put the bike in the Uhaul and the Uhaul stuff in the truck with a tarp over it. Problem solved!

You should've brought a Yamaha snow-mobile instead. Where ya gonna ride the bike in the snow?

Awwwww, the poor thing.....all covered in snow.....gave me the chills looking at all that snow & wind...maybe you should have brought it into the hotel room with you;). Well, I see you at least have a McD's close by!

So, try to stay warm & have a safe remainder to your journey!!

The Uhaul is packed so tight, I cant even barely open it. I dont dare try and take anything out, as I would never get it back in. No ramp or anything to get the bike out of the bed. I get to figure that one out when I get to Oregon. Had to use my FIL ramp to get it in.

Staying here one more day and it should be in the 50s tomorrow. So hopefully it will all melt off.

Supposed to be like 75 in VA tomorrow... I'm going for a ride!

I hope we don't see that much snow this season. There'll be sand on the roads for months.

Damn, I've been reading about all the snow up in that area. Wonder when we're gonna get hit over here in MD/VA.

Are you moving out there or just taking a trip? I'd imagine it's just a trip since that U-Haul trailer isn't very big.

Nope, Moving. Sold off most of my big stuff and anything I couldnt fit in the trailer. Much cheaper this way. If we got the big truck and towed my truck/bike behind it, it would have been about $2400. Doing it this way, it is only $750.

When we finally get to OR, I am going to strip the whole bike and clean and lube the hell out of it.

I live in Nebraska (eastern) and was driving west on the interstate yesterday to go home. I saw on one of those programable signs that the interstate was closed all the way from Ogalala to Laramie Wyoming. You can never trust the weather out here. I actually brought my bike home when I first bought it in a mix of snow and sleet. Even being in the back of our truck the bike was covered in salt by the time I got home. I spent a good hour or so just wiping the bike down when after I unloaded it.

Yeah, we saw those signs too. Not being from the area, we didnt know where they were talking about. We are in Gothenburg right now. Will be here until tomorrow morning, unless they dont open 80 back up.

Wow Jess! That's a damper in the plan! Sorry you got stuck!

The bike should be fine. By the time you arrive, it will have dried completely and throughout. Lube what you can, especially the clutch and two throttle cables, along with the chain, and it should be no worse than being caught in a rain storm.

Did you find the cover for the bike?

Drive safe and take care!!

Couldnt see the cover anywhere. Looked up in the trees and everything. I'll just have to pick another one up. Hope the roads are open tomorrow so I can get to driving and dry it off.

Little snow, like a little rain won't hurt it. Left mine uncovered pretty much all summer. Coat of wax, keep chain cleaned and lubed. Have cover over it now as getting cold and not many days can ride anymore.

What part of Orygun you movin to? Currently, in Bend, aka Central Oregon, it's partly cloudy and bouncing between 62 and 63 degrees. I rode my bike today :D. But I guess it's gonna be raining tomorrow, and starting Monday, it's gonna be a mix of rain and snow..
