So back on May 25 I had a nasty encounter with big buck (about 8 points or so). I was coming out of a turn and there was a huge deer about 6-8 feet off the road to the right. Naturally I let off the gas which made the bike pop and crack (no cat) because of the full exhaust. When the deer heard me he looked up and darted right out in front of me. I had absolutely no time to react except to grab the brake. Needless to say I hit the deer at about 50 MPH and flew over the handlebars. Before the deer went down I hit the deer with the right side of my helmet and shoulder area which sent me helicoptering and bouncing off the pavement and into a ditch about 12 feet off the road. Luckily there was a gentleman in a car about 20 yards behind me that saw the deer get up and run off and my bike doing cartwheels about 150 feet down the road. He jumped out of his car and rushed to my aid and called 911. I didn't loose consciousness but was pretty messed up and couldn't move. An ambulance arrived within 5 minutes and had me at the best trauma hospital in 30 minutes. I suffered a lot of injuries and am still on the mend. Broken clavicle (now has plates and screws), Broken shoulder blade ( also has plates and screws), Broken shoulder socket (now has screws), ribs 3-8 on the right side were all broken (may need surgery on them to add plates and screws), collapsed right lung, L5 and L7 vertebrae have fractures (should heal fine as of today), and some road rash that is still healing on my knees, hands, elbows and right shoulder. I'm lucky to be alive! Needless to say the bike is totaled and I'm probably never going to be 100% again. I'm not sure if I'll ever ride again, I know I don't want to go through this again! Here's some pics of the damage. I loved that bike and will miss it and riding for sure! BTW I had full gear on.1750968153476.webp1750968284371.webp1750968283859.webp1750968283945.webp1750968375198.webp1750968411011.webp

Oh man! I'm sorry that happened and I'm glad to see you're alive! I'm sending good vibes your way to aid the healing. I've seen more deer hit here in colorado than I care to say and they jack up cars... your bike is other worldly destroyed. I now have a more fear of those 4 legged monsters.

I think i'll go buy that airbag i've been thinking about now.

This happened to me when I was about 28 years old. I got out of the USAF in 1962 and one early spring day I decided to go for my first ride of the year. I was in an area I never rode in before just cruising about 50 mph, came to the left hand gentle turn, but when i got into is there was a drop off and continued turn with sand in the road, I was going into the ditch and figured I would just ride it out and back on the road, but some one had bulldozed the ditch and left a wall it the end of it. I hit the wall of dirt, the front wheel stopped the back kicked up and I went over the handle bars and landed on my butt. First thought was The Bike don't seem to be hurt, if I can lift it up I can take off. I tried to lift it an got a tremendous back pain, so bad I laid back down in the ditch. I had back pains for the last 5-6 years before, but not like that. I'm laying in the ditch and two cars came by and ask if I was ok. And both said, we will call for help as soon as we get home. This was before cell phones, ...Neither one got out of the car. Next guy came by in a cattle truck. He got out and tried to help me but I couldn't stand up well. Se he said I live near here so I'll take you home and my boys will pick up your Motorcycle and you can come get it when you are able. I ended up in the ER with Sprained muscles but nothing broke. I was off work a couple weeks. And the weird part of this was, once I healed up, I had no more back pains for the next 40 years.. Like I go an adjustment when I landed on my butt.. The motorcycle was not damaged
