Hello, i just recently got a 2012 Yamaha fz6r with 14k miles on it now its at 15k and last month I heard the valve train after I started and checked the oil I noticed it was almost completely empty. I called the wife had her bring me oil and filled it up at my work before riding it home(20 minute ride)... I have no idea if it was out of oil for the ride to work :[ (I know I should have checked it before leaving)but I was late to work and was using my Pack talk NEO omw to work listening to music on the ride without a care in the world(since it was my first street bike and the first month of ownership and the bike was my best friends who has passed away so I was just jamming enjoying the ride and reminiscing.) I rode it home now with oil and no sign of valve train noise after 5 minutes of idling and letting the oil circulate. I went out the other day and noticed oil seeping out of the oil fill cap.(there has been no oil drops on the floor or any leaks noticed anywhere. I drained some oil out and noticed a distinct smell of gasoline. I drained a full solo cup of oil out of the crank case to get it to the middle of the dipstick and it was not the consistency of oil but that more like gasoline. The oil was also very dark almost black and had contaminates in it (I had changed the oil/filter right after it was found empty at my work about 3-400miles ago).I have not rode it since I discovered the gasoline in the oil(waiting on amazon to drop off a new filter and 5qrt of oil so I can flush the crank case. So my question is two parts.

1. What would cause this issue? / How do I fix this issue / Troubleshoot what the cause could be.
2. Is it safe to ride after I swap out the old dirty oil and filter or should I not ride it until I figure out the issue and resolve it.

From what I read online it could be a failed piston ring letting oil seep past, or possibly a leaky fuel injector leaking oil into the combustion chamber.
I have let it sit for a week without touching it and the gas gauge has not gone down but the oil level has risen but 1 X mark on the dip stick.

That dipstick can be tricky to read 100% consistently. When I check my oil I notice just leaning the bike an extra degree or two will add an "x" on the dipstick. I'd drain the oil (you're going to want to anyway) and leave the drain plug out and set a clean pan under it for a couple days and see if fuel is indeed leaking into the crankcase and into your drain pan.

If it is, I'm not sure what to do then as I've never dealt with this issue on a fuel injected engine. But either way I'd want to confirm whether it is or not before I even put the fresh oil in and run the engine.
