Well I've been posting and lurking on this forum ever since I got my bike, but I haven't done a proper introduction.
My name is JJ and I was born and raised in Alaska, which you might not realize has the highest per capita motorcycle ownership of any state in the US despite only having a six to seven month riding season. This is my second bike and was an early birthday (34th) gift from my dad (and no, I'm not spoiled as this is the first gift I can remember that cost over $1000). My first bike was a 2004 Ninja 500 which I bought new in 2005 despite never having ridden a motorcycle of any kind before, and sold shortly after getting the 6R. I wanted my wife to learn to ride it, but between work, college classes, and the kids, she doesn't have time to take a MRF (sp?) class or even study for her learner's permit.
So not wanting to have an unridden extra bike taking up space and draining it's battery all summer, I did the only thing I could; sold it and used the proceeds to pimp out my new bike. I'm almost done with everything I want to do to it (for now), and I've used everything I made from selling the 500R and then some. But it's been worth it. I love this bike now.
I had been wanting to upgrade for a few years but couldn't justify the expense, but a buddy of mine was selling his race ready 2006 ZX6 for about $5500 and it was such a good deal I was going to pull the trigger, when out of nowhere my dad handed me the bill of sale and said, "Happy birthday."
I was stoked to be handed such an awesome gift, but after reading about the 6R online, I wasn't thinking I'd be keeping it for very long. I knew it would be an upgrade over my 500, but I wasn't sure it would be "peppy" enough for me.
Well, after riding it the first time, I was hooked. And now that I've got the TBR exhaust, and PCV with Marthy's Advgear map in it, I've got a bike that can pop a wheelie, and looks pretty good to boot.
Oh, and my buddy who sold his ZX6 is now jealous of my FZ6R. Every mod I put on just needles him and makes him regret selling his bike. Of course he's moving back to AZ in September and is planning on buying a KTM RC8 as soon as he gets there, so the jealousy shoe will soon switch feet.
Anyway, I appreciate all the help you guys have given me in the month and a half I've been on the forum. I'm a bit sarcastic, and can come off as a dick, but I don't mean any harm. I can take it as well as I dish it out. I'll keep trying to contribute in a positive way with how-to's and helpful comments, so don't hold my occasional smart ass remark against me too much.
BTW, my odometer just hit 3000 miles tonight, fwiw.
