I think band for the $ it doesn't get any better than this. No bike for newby. The peak HP is not mind blowing but the throttle is so responsive and the bike as so mush torque for the weight that its a bit hard to get use to it. You need to be gentle on the throttle in the first 2 gears.

So far, other than being a very horrible bike to ride 2 up... I have nothing bad to say about this bike. The front wheel feel light a bit so I can see dropping the front end a bit but the suspension seems fine for what I need. The bike is so light... coming from the top heavy 6R... wow.

Glad I kept the 6R... I would have miss the comfort and the more "casual" power delivery to ride 2 up.

One more thing... bike run on premium juice. Big sticker on the tank.

Marthy, a couple of questions... (because now you've got me thinking about an upgrade):

1- Does the additional .7 inches or so in seat height make a difference?
2- Cycle ergo shows a seriously more upright riding position... true? (6 degrees forward bend vs 17 on the 6R)
3- Less/more nimble in turns? I'm assuming more nimble with the lighter weight, and confidence of the additional torque, even if it's easier to spin the rear wheel
4- Vibration free? I'm used to that nice smooth 6R feeling. Does the triple compare?

Anywhere you can make comparisons...

(and, thanks, dude.. you're probably going to cost me a few thousand now, out of envy...)

No really because the seat is narrow close to the tank.

Ergo is bang on for me. Very similar to my 6R with the Renthal 787

Handling seems fine. Haven't got to that point yet. Suspension seems adequate other than the front wheel get very light under acceleration. :D

Comparing the 6R to the 09 is like comoaring a mini van to a Miata.

Light and very torquy! It took me few miles to get use to the throttle. Its not jurky but very sensitive. If you ride that thing like the 6R... you'll fall on your a$$!

4- Vibration free? I'm used to that nice smooth 6R feeling. Does the triple compare?

Very smooth. Didn't notice any vibration at all. Ht e bike spin 5K @ 70 MPH.

Anywhere you can make comparisons...

The only comparison I can make with the 6R is fuel economy is you take it easy. Its not even broken in yet and I avrg 42 MPG. But very easy to get 48-50 at 70 MPH (MPG on the dash) and about very accurate if measure when filling up. Whithin 1 MPG. Range is about 120 miles if you play it safe. But if you do only flat slab and conservative speed you get reach 150 miles a tank im sure.

The problem is you have about 20 ft.lb of peak torque more than the 6R. The 09 has as much torque at 2K than the 6R at peak... all that with 60 lbs less.

The 6R is a great bike, don't get me wrong. Im glad I kept mine. But the 09 is a different animal!

The 09 is terrible 2 up! Rear seat padding is about 1/2" and the rear pegs are stupid high... like R6 hight.

1. what throttle response setting are you riding in - A, B or normal?
2. have you noticed any of the fueling issues noted in any of the early reviews?
3. what's the top speed in 1st gear?

STD for now. I haven't push the bike hard enough to tell a difference yet.

I haven't notice any mapping issue yet but the throttle is very responsive and the lower rev is more like a Twin... not a I-4.

3. what's the top speed in 1st gear?

Don't know. I always short shsift the 1st gear so I don't make wheelies! :D:D:D

Edit: Went for a coffee ride this early am. 1st gear get you in the 60ish MPH.

Marty another (lucky) guy on yamahafz1oa got one, maybe he's a member of the fz-09 forum also... he "initially I was going to instal r1 forks but when talking to Traxxion Dynamics they advised that instaling their rebound damping cartridge in the right fork and one of their compression damping cartridges and a new for cap in the left fork. Penske is going to build a new fully adjustable shock using the stock shock as a pattern.

Great! So far the suspension feel pretty solid to me. I might just try to lower the front end just a bit. I can feel what MCN review were complaining about the front end light feel under hard acceleration.

I also need a 20lbs ballast to bolt of the front end. No way to keep that front wheel on the ground in first gear... and if you power shift it goes up in second also, that's even if I lean on the gas tank!

Wonder how it compare to the FZ1.

I drove the 6R tonight from work since it was raining. I was WOT in the rain try to get going and I was like WTF! No throttle control required on that one... :p

Different bike built for a different purpose. Still enjoy both ride...

Exhaust goodies are in the mail... ;) I need to get out of town for an over night in ATL. Might be done by Friday... all depend when I get the stuff here. Ill try to do the dyno run on Wednesday.

I'm reading that throttle control is a little herky-jerky especially in the lower gears. Everything is relative in those reviews, but what do you think, compared to the 6r?
Also, apparently everyone says the front wheel doesn't stay on the ground in 1st, even 2nd gear... They say it's a wheelie machine, but very controllable in B mode... True?
