Figured I would do a journal style thread for me to keep all my thoughts, updates, whining, crying, etc.... :D Any input, help, criticisms, support, anyone wants to throw in here is of course welcome as well.

DAY 1:

Oooooh Myyyyyyyy GAAAAAWWWWWWDDDD!!!!

:(

I hurt so bad this morning. My shoulders, chest, stomach and most of all, elbows. I think I pushed a little hard trying to do all those push ups and pull ups. The weight lift parts were ok... Starting with 25 lb bars right now.

I have never been so close to puking from working out. I was over the toilet and have no idea how I didnt hurl...

First lesson learned: Do not eat RIGHT before working out. Especially for the first time.

Please tell me it gets easier... At least more tolerable?

One cool thing is that one of the guys names on the videos is JASON. Which is of course my name, so when he is yelling at him to push it and get up, etc its like he is talking to me haha. Little extra push helps!

I can definitely see myself sticking with it though. I like it. Very fast paced, good burn!

I am more excited about the nutritional changes I am making though as well. Went to the store last night and got lots more natural real foods instead of all the super processed fatty crap. Lots of turkey, chicken, fish, egg whites, salads, etc. Even without the workout, this is how we should be eating anyways. I do enjoy these foods, just always made excuses for not having enough time to prepare real meals. Not anymore. Funny thing: as I was in line putting all my food on the counter, some really heavy lady behind me yells out "YOU ARE EATING WAAAAAY TO HEALTHY". haha, ok. And its obvious you are not. I just said, "day 1 of a new beginning".

My dad is going through some bad heart problems. He was back in the hospital twice over Thanksgiving break for issues. Some of you remember when it all came to light when I wrecked. Its hell watching and worrying about him and what would happen without him. I dont want my daughter to have to go through that with me. My dads brother just had a full heart transplant not too long ago. Its in my jeans.

I need to do this.

I'm joining a gym tonight... I really don't have space in my house for any kind of workout.... tried it with free weights, but my house is so tiny... and I def. couldn't jump or swing around... whole house would shake

I'm mostly going to do cardio.... just want my gut busted, I could care less how much I weigh or about lifting xxx lbs.

Good luck and keep at it

Yeah, thats my main goal is cardio and just burning off this fat and eating right. I am not concerned about being a certain weight as long as its just not all fat ya know?

Looking at myself in the mirror I just had blinders on I guess.... I had Melissa take some pics last night and seeing myself in an actual picture really opened my eyes to how much I am really putting on.

So good luck to you as well. A gym setting will def help give you some motivation and push too.

I remember my first day as well. I was in the same boat, waiting over the toilet for everything I had eaten that day to revisit. Luckily, I didn't

. You are going to be sore, and the worst soreness is usually the 2nd-3rd days after the workout. However, after the first week or two, it gets much better and the soreness wanes off. Then you will see that you can do more reps or even feel like adding weight. And the best part about it for me, was that I started feeling better right away. I had more energy and was in a better mood. And the visual results come pretty darn fast. Stick with it and I guarantee you will be impressed!

If I can do a 12 mile inline skate one or twice a week, I'm doing good after the year long interferon treatments I had that ended in September.
My son used to call it a beer belly but since I haven't had any alcohol in almost 2 years he is trying to find a new name.
Once I get rid of the residual symptoms of the treatment, I will start a better exercise program. Right now I'm still anemic and my immune system is shot. Doing exercise of any kind is hard. I used to do a 12 mile skate daily for many years for the cardio but not for now.
Keep up the good work and exercise a lot. You will reap the benefits after you get older and your heart is able to take a 184 bpm sustained for a few minutes after you are 55......
I still think young and feel like I am a lot younger than my age. A lifetime of hard exercise is a big part of that benefit.

From someone who has been very successful and very unsuccessful in the past with this kind of stuff, you need to change your lifestyle. Traditional "diets" don't work because most people can't maintain it. My advice is to make small changes little by little that you can stick with. If you can commit to 30 minutes of cardio twice a week, start with that and work your way up.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Absolutely. I know this is not a quick fix type of thing. And I never do diets. I have to make a life change and just start eating right. My main goal with the P90X is to hopefully get my body where I want it to be and then do maintenance to keep it where I want it. Its a mental goal as well. I have always given up on things like this. I want to prove to myself that I can and will stick with it. And if I can do this, I know I can do good for the rest of my life and set good examples for my child.

I've tried the "Insanity" workout a couple of times. I guess it's kind of like P90X. I have to agree with you about not eating right before the workout....and another thing, don't drink apple juice right before either. I threw up pure apple juice after day two of Insanity. I was doing the workouts in the garage, and ran out through the service door. The neighbors were probably wondering why I was hunched over in the yard.

I'll try to keep up with your progress because I'm thinking about switching to another workout because after 30 days of Insanity, the workouts go to an hour and half each, and it's pure hell.

Just Keep pressing play and i would really make sure you get some sort of recovery drink...something with leucine this will help with the soreness

It gets better after about the 3rd day. I don't know how involved the workout is but to help eliminate stiffness the day after do a light stretch after your warm up and a more intensive stretch after. Don't stretch before you start, you can hurt yourself. If you're going to do something, do it right! Look up different stretches and the do's and don'ts!

Making sure you stretch will help you stay away from injuries! In life and during the workout! Don't skimp on it!

5 grains of morphene intramuscularly works well too for aches and pains...:D

This might sound a little goofy but it works. Buy a unicycle and ride that thing. It wears me out so dang fast. I always wanted to learn so I got one and damn is it tiring. P90x is great if you stick with it but most people don't. A unicycle would be a great complement to p90x or gym workouts. It's a lot of fun too and only hard asses ride unicycles!

I just finished Plyometrics...

WOW! I like that one! Most people I have talked too say that is the absolute worst one, but I actually really liked it. I was able to keep pace and that was one hell of a work out.

I have always had really strong legs so that definitely helped. It was for sure a push on my cardio though. Good stuff.

If I can say one thing that is very simple. Run. It is the ultimate weight loss drug. I have run all my life. My wife would not run. She said she couldn't do it. She tried weight watchers and going to the gym. All of that is so difficult to maintain for most people. By a good pair of shoes and you can workout any time and at any moment. At some point you will be hooked and it will be a part of your life that you will not be able to stop. My wife finally saw the light and realized she was getting no where. She started walking, then run walking and then running. Today she is running half marathons and has lost 70 pounds. She will tell you today how right I was. Running is the ultimate weight loss drug. But, it all starts with will power. At some point you need to change your life and your mindset. I think you have hit that point and have seen the light. Now you need to stay with the plan and start seeing results. Just don't get discouraged when the weight is not coming off. Sometimes weight does not come off but the inches do. Keep up the good work.

At my age, my hip joints are damaged almost as bad as my shoulder joints.
I can't run but I agree that running is THE best weight loss exercise. Pounds just fall off you. Inline skating is low impact so I can still do it and I don't have to ride a road bike for 3 hours to achieve what I get after 45 minutes on skates.

I am in the middle of P90X right now :) I started week 6 tonight. I wasnt too sore once I started week 3, so you will be fine (PS, if you just did Plyo, you will feel it tomorrow).

On week 2 really try to focus on form, you will notice how much more you feel the workouts.

I am expecting decent results when all is said and done. I started getting back in shape a few years ago and shed some weight. I had been plateauing of late (8-10 months) so I thought P90X would be a good mix and change, especially since the colder weather hit and it's not as easy to go outside for runs.

I really enjoy it, and havent missed a day in 5 weeks so far. I have Plyo in the morning :-) PS, the yoga in 2 days is great for stretching out if you are feeling really sore...but it is boring as hell ;)

You should change up your workouts every 2-3 months to keep from "plateauing ". Your body gets used to it and it stops being as effective as it was. Good luck to both of you!
