Ive made the decision not to upgrade exhaust.

I wanted to add my 2 cents for fun :-)

Finally got to ride mine today for my commute after putting on my TBR and JBP this weekend. I never noticed any real "popping" mostly just some gurggling on deceleration...but it sounded throatty and I actually like the sound.

In regards to "louder is safer" I think it can be. No one is going to hear me really doing anything over 45 regardless of exhaust. But I can tell you when 4 lines of traffic are piddling along doing about 5-10mph and people are jockeying for lane position and everyone is bumper to bumper...you WILL be noticed more. It's the biggest thing I noticed today...people were aware of me in their blind spots at that speed and that close of proximity. I do not expect people to stop driving me off the road though at highway speeds because they arent going to hear me anyway.

So in that regards I do feel safer to a degree in those situations. Otherwise I love the throaty, sporty sound to make my riding experience more enjoyable (maybe I am deaf but I dont think its THAT much louder). I also like the mild performance improvements it offered.

To me it was worth the $760+$240 investment for the 2 parts. Plus it looks cool haha

The point is that it really doesn't matter if a louder exhaust is safer or not.
We can argue that point until hell freezes over just like different grades of gasoline and oil and out favorite colors and actors ETC. It is all extremely subjective and there is no empirical data that will satisfy or prove any or all points of view.

The point is that whether we make changes to our motorcycles and what changes we make are controlled by many factors and for anyone to go off on another forum member and ridicule their decision or position is completely unacceptable. We can tease or joke all we want but calling names and deriding someone's decision as has been done is pure mean and doesn't belong in this forum no matter how wrong a forum members reason for modifying the motorcycle is.
I won't put up with it obviously.
If ya want to decorate the bike with Thomas the Train wood train engines, go ahead if ya think that will keep you safer. Anyone that disagrees, keep it civil and cut out the name calling.

And if ya want to put Thomas engines on my avatar, go ahead....I do have a sense of humor...:p

I completely agree ^ ^ ^

This is actually a good thread when you think about...lots of people get the exhaust setup for a lot of different reasons... a lot of people also don't get one for a lot of different reasons.

I never meant to offend anyone...i was just stating my opinion with my experience with my exhaust mod. Yes you are correct that i do like the "woot" factor and the louder noise. But...i also like the gained horsepower from the mod and getting rid of the extra weight.

But since i have done the mod I have noticed that my cut off frequency declined. I never said it went to straight zero, i was just stating that it doesn't happen as much as when i had my stock exhaust...

Sorry if my words or comments offended anyone in anyway, those were not my intentions whatsoever

It wasn't you bakkenlab.....You have nothing to apologize for.
Here is one of the quotes that I took exception too. Wasn't you.
So....... you telling me that nobody would have been cut off with a pipe? lmao!!!!! you make ZERO defense on the subject.... I will bow out at this time since I have learned in the past that you don't argue with ignorance or stupidity.... you will always loose... they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

My 2 cents....

I like the sound of a TB Exhaust and would love to get it. However, I do think there is a small increase in safety if you upgrade your exhaust that improves the loudness at any given level, even if it's a small gain.

I always notice motorcycles when they come up behind me because they are loud from straight pipes or just have those annoying cans on the end of them...

I personally would opt to get an exhaust rather than have a really quiet bike on the road. I think it would outweigh the possibilities of cops being able to hear you coming before they see you.. I would rather increase the chance of other motorists hearing me (even if that chance % is small) than the few times I'd wish I had quieter pipes so the cops wouldn't hear me speeding past them.

I do agree that because of a bikes big difference in profile size, we need every advantage we can get to have the cagers be aware of us! :)

Defensive riding saves lives. But that doesn't rhyme like "Loud pipes save lives" And further more I call bs on Chuck and Martin, the blue bikes look way better.:D Ride like your life depends on it and have fun gentlemen!

I want to kick you in the nuts for even remotely thinking anything is faster than the superior cadmium yellow superbikes. Dont make me get my flamethrower and flame you for such flaming thoughts. :rtfm:

Now that is funny....

I have proof the yellow bikes are faster. Mine was so fast I wrecked it in a crash.
I'd never have done that with another color.

My 2 cents.

Loud Pipe going constantly = more attention and possibly less cut offs/run-ins with drivers.

I never really use my horn because people can't really hear it anyways.
Love my TBR exhaust for many reasons.

That's why my mod after I do my exhaust is going to be the airhorn off a Mack dumptruck. TAKE THAT YOU BLIND F*ING CAGER!!!

about the same here. I wouldn't mind a deeper grumble, but don't really want it much louder... I get home at all times of the night and leave at all times in the morning... don't need to be making my neighbors mad at me during the riding season (also the reason I'm even up right now.... going to go for a ride with FZ6Black for his b-day).

I also think it's funny, when I start the bike.. and everyone looks at me.... "Did you start that? or do you have a radio on?" lol

This is the reason I like my stock exhaust and probably won't be changing it. My brother's got a 90s honda cruiser (i don't remember which model), and it's so loud you can hear him from blocks away. When he leaves at 3 in the morning, it wakes up everybody.

I know louder is generally considered safer for the "I'm here don't run me over" factor, but there are many other reasons to not be loud.

Now hold up a minute there son. I don't think you want to do that. But that was funny as hell!

Exhaust Sensor

hi all, new to this forum but wondering if any one can help. I have noticed that there appears to be a sensor connected to the exhaust system, does anyone know what would happen if i left this disconnected, would a power commander be need

Thanks all

If you are in London, it might be an oxygen sensor that isn't installed onto the US models.
I don't have the answer but someone will be along shortly to help.

:disapprove:
There is a reason the official racing color is blue!
