I heard someone screaming about it being a funeral procession (after the crash), however, I counted just two cars with their lights on to let anyone know...

Offset's a good thing at stops... thanks for the reminder...

I have never heard of this custom of stopping for funeral processions. It seems quite unsafe in my opinion. How long are you supposed to stop for, and how do you know which cars are in it and which ones are just waiting to get through? You might end up trapped, empty road in front of you, for a long time. Doesn't seem polite anyway, to block traffic and then have a whole bunch of people behind you hitting their horns wondering what's going on...

Regardless, he had excellent lane positioning and lives to ride with the mohawk another day... Good job.

I'm not sure where that was video-taped, but it's a common practice in the south to pull over, if you're coming in the opposite direction, as a gesture of respect. You typically *stay* pulled over until the entire procession passes.

It dates back prior to the existence of super-highways (or even highways), when it was etiquette to pull over (whatever you were driving, from horse and buggy to model T) to give the procession room, and preferred right of way, on small single, and barely-two-lane, roads. It developed into a sign of respect, however, funeral processions *do* have the right away (even if it's not law to pull over -- so you can get ticketed if you cut *into* a funeral procession).
