Hello everyone,

I have a 2009 Yamaha XJ6n(aked, oh yes!) and unfortunately about 2 months ago I had a small accident (2nd in 15yrs) which ended up damaging the left side (plastics) and also cracking the cover causing the oil to spill (also did the traffic police for about 2 hours until the municipality came).

When I asked a workshop I know, he told me that he wants €150-170 JUST FOR THE COVER + if the coils are broken + labor, etc. I decided to try fixing it alone. I don't have special knowledge but after a bit of searching on Youtube and after carefully opening the cover, I came to the conclusion that it's possible! I ordered the cover (€50), then unscrewed the old cover, being careful and videotaping every step, and saw that the coils were intact (I haven't checked electrically since I don't know how) at least from an external point of view. Unfortunately there is a brace as a cover for the wires that connect the coil and a thick triple wire.

That screw was the only one that wouldn't come out no matter what I did. I finally got a metal cutting wheel and cut the screw head off. Unfortunately due to the difficult area (near the wires ending in the coil) at some point the drill slipped and I cut 2 of the 3 wires.

Since damage was done I decided to cut the 3rd wire too so I could work more comfortably and the job was done. Unfortunately, now I don't know if I can solder these wires, because they are quite thick and I haven't looked for another way. So I ended up here, hoping someone more knowledgeable than me (and there are plenty :) ) would have a suggestion or an idea on how to fix this issue. I hope there will be some solution that wouldn't involve replacing the whole cable or else im screwed; probably worse than the one I had to break :P

Thanks all in advance!

Honestly, I'd just order a new stator. That connection is important enough to where I wouldn't want to mess with a DIY wire repair and a stator is cheap enough to where there's no reason to not just buy a new one with fresh wires.

Thanks for the reply. Yea prices are a bit high (over 50€) but I can surely order it. Then again I don't know if the cabling will be an issue i.e. remove parts so I can access the cabling. Going to check it today and see where the cable leads and if it's easy to replace. Btw is the below stator that I found on Ali a good fit? It says the make but I'm not sure. If I search for a genuine is over 300€ and used genuine over 200€.

Thanks !

Hinyou can try to buy it from Ali but you don't know how long it will last it's an Chinese part it might last for 10 years or 10 days

Heh yeah thought of the same thing as well. This is why I'm trying to find a way to fix the one I already have since the cable is the only issue but it's not that simple. Thanks for the replies. I've talked to some repair shops and one of them will put new cable and fix it. Fingers crossed!
