Hey guys. No this isnt a topic about knee dragging or anything so I apologize in advance. I have a dilemma. Now I'm not going to get into the gritty details but I am currently trying to get a 2011 fz6r from this dealer for $5k cash on the spot. I don't have credit history or a credit card and can't get a co-signer nor a loan, Ive tried several times. If there's one thing this situation has taught me, never listen to people that say no credit is better than bad credit. ANY CREDIT IS BETTER THAN BAD CREDIT, DUH!!!

Sorry, got off topic for a bit.

Anyway, because of where I live I can't get it used for under $6,400 and he's trying to sell it for standard MSRP which isn't even an option at this point.

Any tips on how to talk him down? I can tell the bike has been there for a while and he really wants to get rid of it. I'm new to haggling and quite frankly, I suck at it.

Dealership here is sellin them for 6500 brand new. Plus I've seen them cheaper than 5 grand used. Shoot I'd sell mine for 5 grand lol

I bought mine, a 2 year behind model for 4983.13 brand new 0 miles. I also bought it in dead of winter. If I were you I would call every dealership with your driving limits and tell them. " I have 5k cash now. I want a '10 fz6r, can you do it?" see if you get any hits. Your bargaining power went out with the spring, you're now looking at trying to use your cash in hand as a selling incentive. Try finding a bike show, they have show specials too.

Yeah I wanted to get one in the winter but it was rough for me because I didn't have a stable job and all my money went towards transportation, food and bills. Now I got a good job and am about to get my endorsement and finding this bike cheap or in good condition where I live is becoming quite annoying.

I bet. If you want a brand new bike you may have to wait til this coming winter. I know it sucks waiting but it may be worth it in the long run. You can always consider extra savings to use for mods and insurance or whatever else you want. You may also be looking at a 2+ year old model they never sold. Don't let anyone discourage you or tell you something is impossible if your goals are within reason. There are deals out there to be had, be patient and do your homework. It will pay off and lets face it Yamaha wont change the fz6r much in '13. Good luck with your endorsement.

Kinda found that funny because my GF said the same thing. I guess time will tell. Its so hard to try and keep my mind off it but I drive to work and see people riding and its like getting stabbed repeatedly. Funny thing though, I told my friend once I get it I'm probably going to get saddle sore with the amount of riding Im going to be doing. :D

I tried the "I have cash in hand" bargaining tactic a while ago. The dealers didn't seem to care at all. I've heard that they actually prefer financing, because they get some kind of kick-back for "selling" the loan to you (don't know how true it is). Even if that's not true, the dealer is not the one taking the risk on the loan. They get their money for the bike no matter how you pay for it.

However, private sellers on Craigslist love cash, so a private sale might work out better for you. You should be able to find a low-mileage 2009 or 2010 for around $5k or less.

It's more than a kickback - it's a commission paid by the credit union/bank/motor corporation that provides a loan. And it's WAAAAAAY more money then they would make on a sale of the bike itself. Where else but in a motorcycle dealership are people signing up for 18.99% loans?

Works with car sales as well. Dealer straight up told me they get a kick back. Gave them incentive to knock a few hundred off the price. Fortunately for us, the rate ended up lower than our local bank.

OP... Make sure you're in a good place to drop the cash on a bike. We've seen too many times on here that a guy has to sell because something happened to make money a bit tighter.

Good luck!
