Gun Talk Thread

So I finally took the wife out to the range to teach her to shoot my .38. That thing has a hell of a recoil for a little lady like my wife with it's little 3" barrel. I've shot much more violent kicking guns many times. But she hasn't. After talking to her dad (retired SDPD and firearms instructor) about some of my concerns about our neighborhood (even though it's a nicer neighborhood, there are a few suspected drug dealers in close proximity, etc...) I'm seriously considering getting something a little easier to shoot, more accurate, and with a much higher capacity than that old 5 shot S&W .38 revolver he gave me for home protection. I'm really considering a Glock 19. I'm going to the range to rent one tomorrow to get a good feel for one. Only thing is I really don't want to drop $550 on one right now. Anyone know of anybody looking to sell one in California? Also how does that work in California? What are the laws about private sale of hand guns? I know there's the wait period to buy from a shop. But what are the restrictions for private sales and shipping?

This pic bugs me , Gun Safty rule number one , dont put your finger ont he trigger unless you plan on destroying whats on the end of the barrel , sorry stuff like that just agravates me , im sure the gun is prolly unloaded but not the point , just not good gun handling....ok rant over
If I wanted to pile on, I would ask why it is her off-hand finger that's on the trigger, or why her off hand thumb is wrapped over her right hand instead of inline with the pistol...doing that is a great way to have the slide take off a chunk of your thumb.
Teach her how to hold that thing mang!!!!!

GSG MP5 chambered in 22LR

Remington 700 .30-06
Remington 870 12 gauge
Winchester 94 .30-30
(2 OLD .22's and a Winchester .308 I got when my dad died)
I am waiting on my permit to buy so that I can replace the old .40 Winchester I used to have.
I am going between wanting the SW M&P .40, or the Springfield XD .40
I am having a HECK of a time deciding.
The purchase will have to be either lay away at Gander/Cabelas or toss $100 into savings each month to get, so that I can still rebuild my general emergency fund.
I want to get a new Marlin SS .30-30 and find a nice .308 in SS. I would like to keep my dads guns and my winchester 94 "retired" and clean.(wife is ok with this part)
*Wife not too fond of me getting more general "bang bangs" though!

Hmm only own 2. A sweet little Chiappa 1911-22. It's a a standard 1911 frame, etc, that shoots 22LR.
The other (which happens to be my wife's favorite) is the S&W .44 Magnum, stainless steel 7 1/4" barrel.

Reminds me of when my wife fired my Dad's snub-nose 44 mag , he always use max grain bullet and charge (hand loaded) .

haha, no clue... (not my vid of course
). Thing is a cannon for sure! Thought that big burly dude would put a serious grip on it but nope. You see he was going to one hand it at first? Check out some of the vids for the 700 Nitro rifles. Crazy.

I knew immediately something bad was gonna happen. He was leaning back away from the gun, which is a proper stance no-no. He wasn't braced at all. Granted the gun shouldn't pop out of your hand like that, but for huge caliber guns like that I have seen shooters wrap fingers over the top of the barrel to control the kick. That dude overall was pretty clueless.

Guns hold their value pretty well and you really don't save much buying used.
Your best bet is to check out the gun shows for deals.
I have a Glock 19, it's not gonna be much more accurate than your .38. It IS an excellent gun to carry though.
I pack my Glock 19 with a 17 round clip or a 15 round clip. I also have a 30-round clip for fun at the range.
If you need to pack more than 17 rounds than you are seriously in some deep sh!t, or you're just a really bad shot. LOL

That's kind of what I was afraid of as far as the value goes. I don't like buying anything used, (cars, bikes, etc...) I like new stuff, so I think I'll just save up some cash and get a new one. It just seems like that .38 wouldn't be the most ideal weapon to have if the shit hit the fan in the neighborhood. I'm not carrying, not even really planning on getting a concealed permit. Its more for home protection. We have suspected drug dealers in multiple homes near us, we've had garages in the neighborhood, including mine, emptied in the middle of the night, as well as cars stolen. You'd never guess it driving up our street because the homes are nice and it's a clean area. But crime hits anywhere you have greed. I just want to be prepared.

A .38 +P or +P+ will do you fine in a self defense situation, but a .357 revolver is ideal because you can run .38 through it at the range and keep .357 in it at home for defense.
If you want a home defense weapon, a revolver is 100% your best bet (and this is coming from someone who owns all semi auto pistols.) If your home is invaded and you have a .357 you'll only need a couple shots, so the 15+ mag capacity of autos is rendered moot. And when you are awoken in the middle of the night, the revolver is the simplest pistol to use, and in the event of a misfire, you simply pull the trigger agin and the cylendar cycles. In a semi-auto if you get a misfire or jam you have to take action to clear the jam, etc. And if untrained to do so, that's all the time an attacker needs.
Revolvers for home defense, seriously. Unless you spend a lot of time at the range, training with immediate action drills, etc.

Unless you have a pet orangutan thats a light sleeper. But then you will have to gather up the body parts it pulls off the would be attacker/burglar afterwards. Could be a bit messy.
