Hi I am getting ready to buy a 2011 or 2012 FZ6R and had a few question. Does the bike have helmet locks under the seat? If so how many? How accurate is the gas gauge? Also what is the range per tank? Thank you

First off welcome  This is a great forum and we are here to answer questions. But being this is your first post, tell us a little about youself, first motorcycle? Years of riding experience etc...?

No helmet lock. Well, just a bar you slip a wire cable around that attaches to your lid etc... Fuel gauge is accurate in my opinion. low to mid 40 miles per gallon (depending on how you ride etc) I get over 200 miles per tank. I'm sure other members here will bite on this thread and give you more info on their experiences. Oh, and when you get your 6R it's kinda a tradition to post a few pic's :)

The FZ6R will be my first bike:D. I have almost one year of riding experience. I was riding a small 125cc scooter over seas:germany:. I was looking to get a 2012 Ninja 250 as a first bike but the dealer told me that the bike would be to small and told me to look at the FZ6R.

alaskanflyboy; Thank you that is great info

There is a huge difference between the 250 vs FZ6R! You will enjoy the bike. Plenty of power. like I have stated before in other posts:

Top speed 130-140mph
1/4 mile 12.4 sec

I have ridden 600's/1000 super sports etc... I really enjoy the 6R. Might not have the power of the super sports but it can handle it's own!

Cause I am coming from a 125cc small scooter, would the FZ6R make a good starter bike? Or would I be better off looking at the 250 first? Thank you for all of your help

Only YOU know if you are ready for a bike with as much power as the 6r coming off a scooter. I'd say try a 250, then try a 6r and see what you feel more comfortable on before you make a purchase. Don't worry about the old "I don't want to buy a bike I won't keep" argument because used 250's are cheep and resale is strong

don't waste your time with a 250, get a nice used 600

I owned my Ninja 250 for 9 days before I bought a FZ6R. I wouldn't bother with a 250.

If he came back and said ya I thought a 250 would just be a waste of time after all I've had this scooter for a month now and have only wrecked it 3 times.... Would y'all still say screw a 250?

Nope not three times.. Just had a car back in to it and nocked it down. dose that one still count?

Honestly, depends on how comfortable you are on the Saddle. If the roads in Germany are anything like Spain, then you should be more than capable of handling normal city/town streets in the States - Highways however, are a different story. Bigger cars = bigger problems. I had a 250 Ninja in Spain and it was nice... of course, there was no 8 lane highways either. I <3'ed my 250, and sold it 20 seconds after getting to San Diego. The FZ6R is a big jump for riders like us, and is a near perfect beginners bike. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out. GSX-R's, CBR's, and whatever else are great rockets, but if you're into distance riding -- good luck! haha...

Over all, I would say go for the FZ6R. It's built well, it handles well, and it looks awesome. I get more people looking at my bike than those cookie cutter bikes.

Good luck!

Hi guy, sorry to bring up an old thread. But I just passed my MSF course! I have a few more questions about the bike before I pull the trigger.
1. How loud is the exhaust? The reason why I ask this is I leave at 4am to go to work and I do not know want to wake up all my neighbors.
2. How will is the ride?
3 Bike that I had at my MSF class it was terrible, it had a really bad vibes coming from the engine. How does the bike hold up to that?
4 Does any one in the States know if this bike can be set up with a center stand? If so do you know the Yamaha part number.
Thank you :) I can not wait to start riding.

I just got a 2011 fz6r, orange, first bike, and I personaly think its awesome. Im getting 43mpg, very controlable power, very comfortable. I get alot of compliments on this bike.

bad mileage

Yes they are under the seat and I have been able to lock both my helmets on it.
Yes there is a gas gauge on the bike and you should be looking at a minimum of 45-50 miles per gallon.

Hi,
I am new to this forumn. Just got my 2012 fz6r about 2month now and think its doing bad on gas mileage. I've been riding for years. first bike ever was a cb500, moved to an rz350, then gixer1100, ninja zx7, gixer750, ninja250 and now the latest 2012 fz6r. Bike is great so far but not sure if I should be seeing more in terms of mileage per fill. I ride in the city back and forth from work and I'm only getting 150km's per tank (~93miles) is this normal? dont think this is the 45mpg or 50mpg that most people are getting. Any idea on what I can do to make it better?
