I had a burnt exhaust valve and after I did my valve adjustment (with your video!) The valve hung and BOOM.I don't have an answer to your question, but I certainly have questions of my own...
How'd that happen?
What led you to the conclusion that one of your valves was burnt? Was it visually obvious?I had a burnt exhaust valve and after I did my valve adjustment (with your video!) The valve hung and BOOM.
Well after I pulled the head off yeah it was fairly obvious. What led you to the conclusion that one of your valves was burnt? Was it visually obvious?
Holy mess dude that’s awful. Just trying to understand your “pre-symptoms,” but when you say you had been having bad popping for a while, when would it occur to where it caught your attention?Well after I pulled the head off yeah it was fairly obvious.
I've had bad exhaust pops for about a yearish. Gas mileage tanked. I thought it was bad valve clearance so I did the adjustment. Started it up after and 30 seconds later the pops start. Drove it home and 20 miles on the way YUUUUUUUUGE smoke cloud and it sounded like a glass jar full of marbles. Didn't notice until someone started flashing their lights and I realized I could see behind me.
Completely different from decel pops. I get the sane decel pops that everyone's talked about. One of Marthys maps (sport rev A?) It has the big pop at 4k just like everyone else has said.Holy mess dude that’s awful. Just trying to understand your “pre-symptoms,” but when you say you had been having bad popping for a while, when would it occur to where it caught your attention?
Just asking for clarification so that the forum can learn. Most of us with aftermarket exhausts and tunes experience decel popping, so I presume you were experiencing something more pronounced?
That engine got to 76,255 when I had pulled over.Aww MAN the photos really put that failure into perspective! That was a pretty wild turn of events you described, too.
How many miles were on that engine? Also, what was it in your particular situation that you believe led to the valve burn??
Well I got 2 happy notes. It’s a very curious situation, indeed. Like you said, we’ve got the same mod ensemble, and I waited till 55k to do my valve adjustment. I had to go right back into mine that time and remove the head for purposes of valve seal replacements, and so I got up close and personal with the valves and none of them looked questionable. Minimal deposits on the pistons… really makes you wonder.
I tell you what, though, perhaps she’ll pop on any given Sunday now that I’m tracking her. 65k on the clock and spending a full day on the track at 10k RPM may take its toll fairly quickly.
One thing’s for sure, we’re gonna find out. I hate that happened to you dude. Maybe pick up a low mileage eBay engine on the cheap just to get her back up and running? Prolly what I would do..
Yup I've got AIS block offs.Had the A.I.S valves been blocked off on top of the rocker cover? Doing that stops the decel pop and probably reduces the chance of a burnt valve.
Running lean burns valves to , could be one faulty injector on that cylinder.
