Has anyone ever done an FZ6 engine swap??

Just had a valve piston collision and destroyed my piston.

Currently investigating a motor swap. I know the 6r motor fits (obviously) but I'm wondering if an FZ6 swap is possible?

Haven't heard of anyone doing it. The frames are different so the mounting points might be to . You would need the ecu as well , don't know if the wiring is different .

What led you to the conclusion that one of your valves was burnt? Was it visually obvious?
Well after I pulled the head off yeah it was fairly obvious.

I've had bad exhaust pops for about a yearish. Gas mileage tanked. I thought it was bad valve clearance so I did the adjustment. Started it up after and 30 seconds later the pops start. Drove it home and 20 miles on the way YUUUUUUUUGE smoke cloud and it sounded like a glass jar full of marbles. Didn't notice until someone started flashing their lights and I realized I could see behind me.

Holy mess dude that’s awful. Just trying to understand your “pre-symptoms,” but when you say you had been having bad popping for a while, when would it occur to where it caught your attention?
Just asking for clarification so that the forum can learn. Most of us with aftermarket exhausts and tunes experience decel popping, so I presume you were experiencing something more pronounced?

Completely different from decel pops. I get the sane decel pops that everyone's talked about. One of Marthys maps (sport rev A?) It has the big pop at 4k just like everyone else has said.

When I would cold start it it would sit there and pop every 2 seconds fairly regular. Once it was warm it didn't pop as much. But GOOOOOD DAAAMN I was worried my neighbors would call the cops about gunshots for a while when it got way worse when winter came in.

Impossible to *electric start* but it push starts fine.

Maybe it was just me but with all the other pops from my delkovic exhaust I didn't notice the burnt valve pop until a friend of mine who's a Toyota tech heard it pop a single time and told me it was burnt.

I had noticed my gas mileage absolutely TANK. I have the same mods you have (even used half your videos for them like the timing advance). I'm getting maybe 34 on a good day. A tank goes 110miles and I'll be pulling in on E. I have gotten over 120 on a tank in a while but I used to get 40mpg easy even hard on the throttle.

The pops from the valve also sound different than decel pops. And it only happened *at idle specifically*. Decel pops or tune pops are more of a poppy fun sound. The burnt valve pops were a more pressure sound and more PAAA like pressing your lips together and making a P sound.

Trying to think of all my symptoms I'll add more if I can think of anything.

Aww MAN the photos really put that failure into perspective! That was a pretty wild turn of events you described, too.
How many miles were on that engine? Also, what was it in your particular situation that you believe led to the valve burn??

That engine got to 76,255 when I had pulled over.

And to be perfectly honest I don't know what led to it. I mean my bike is setup the same as yours. Like besides a different map (marthy's touring rev B map. Tried your hindle but I didn't feel it. Excited to try that on the new engine) and I have full cortech luggage. Besides that we have all the same mods. So if a mod somewhere caused it then you would have it too and potentially sooner because I only recently did the more dangerous mods (PCv, fuel maps, air box, timing).

The same Toyota tech friend said it was probably just a fluke thing?

Google says letting the engine overheat or incorrect fuel but I've always ran premium 75% of the time and mid grade 25%. I did the timing advance at the same time as the valve adjustment so it only ran 20 miles with the advanced timing.

So unless some mechanical super sleuth can count the rings in my cylinder head or some magic.

♂♂♂ I don't really know what caused it.

It’s a very curious situation, indeed. Like you said, we’ve got the same mod ensemble, and I waited till 55k to do my valve adjustment. I had to go right back into mine that time and remove the head for purposes of valve seal replacements, and so I got up close and personal with the valves and none of them looked questionable. Minimal deposits on the pistons… really makes you wonder.

I tell you what, though, perhaps she’ll pop on any given Sunday now that I’m tracking her. 65k on the clock and spending a full day on the track at 10k RPM may take its toll fairly quickly.

One thing’s for sure, we’re gonna find out. I hate that happened to you dude. Maybe pick up a low mileage eBay engine on the cheap just to get her back up and running? Prolly what I would do..

Had the A.I.S valves been blocked off on top of the rocker cover? Doing that stops the decel pop and probably reduces the chance of a burnt valve.
Running lean burns valves to , could be one faulty injector on that cylinder.

Well I got 2 happy notes.

If you get a burnt valve and catch it early I got an entire cylinder head with around 9k miles for $150 off good ol fleabay.

If you don't catch it in time to stop valve salad I got a 16k mile engine off fleabay for $900 shipped!

If I had known it was going to be a rebuild I would have tried to copy one of your videos.

Yup I've got AIS block offs.

Have you seen Marthys maps? Those maps are fat as hell!!!

The bad injector is possible. I've tried to keep my injector cleaners going regular.
