New member welcome thread

Hi Everyone,

This is Chris from Redmond WA. Finally back into riding after a 15 year hiatus. While snooping around the internets to figure out which bike I wanted I learned about the FZ6R, when I got the chance to test one out I knew it was the bike for me. I've had her for three weeks now but we've only had 2 days without rain since then so she's been covered up. I've spent the intervening time wisely by reading the forums and planning my mods. Today we had a bit of sun so installed my integrated taillight and FE. Thanks to all of those who posted so much useful information on this site, installation was a breeze. Pics to come when I get the chance.

By the way, does anybody here in Washington state know whether we still need the side mounted reflectors that are on the fender? My FE doesn't really have anywhere on the bracket to mount any...

Hey Everyone,

All my kids are growing up and I was sitting with my wife watching “Dance Moms”…. Yes, you heard me correctly “Dance Moms”. It was at this moment that I realized I needed a project before I lose my mind. I started looking around for a fixer upper motorcycle that needed some TLC.

I found a 2009 FZ6R on craigslist that had a Salvage title. I was able to get the bike for $1700 and so my project has begun. The bike is actually in pretty good condition. It didn’t look like it was in a wreck but it seemed that a couple of newbies owned it and made dropping the bike a sort of hobby. The tank needed work and the Fairings had some cracks.

To date I pulled the tank and filled some dents and repainted it Yamaha Blue. The FZ6R I bought is white but it will be Yamaha Blue when I am done. The tank is finished and looks pretty good. I have finished the exhaust and added some odds and ends (Levers, Sliders, Etc.). However, I am waiting on the biggest piece of the puzzle which are the Fairings. I took a gamble and bought these from China. We will see how that goes but I have always been a “penny wise and a pound foolish” so I couldn’t help myself. My fingers are crossed.

So that’s the whole story. Great forum with tons of great information.

:welcome:. if you could throw some pics up when you get a chance we'd all love to see the progress you've made with the bike. sounds like you're making some good headway. the following are two great threads you can add to with your on-going work. we're all about pictures around here.

(oh, and stay away from JT, he's trouble )

Adding pics is definitely my intent. I am a little old to be listening to Justin Timberlake, I will stay away. Thank you for the links.

New 2012 FZ6R Owner From Alabama

Hi! My name is Tim and I live in north Alabama. I'm 48 years-old and I have been ridding on and off for 35 years.

Last summer, I bought a new 2011 V Star Custom 650. It's a nice bike, but I really did not like the cruiser seating position. I sold it last week and on Saturday I bought a new 2012 FZ6R.

The FZ6R has plenty of power for my intended use and the upright seating position and handlebars are very comfortable. I'm 5'5" and it fits me really well.

We also have a 2012 Suzuki Burgman 400 ABS that my wife and I two-up on. Hey, I know what some of you are thinking, but don't knock a big scooter until you've ridden one. It has so much storage under the seat that I go grocery shopping on it. We only have one car at the moment, and the Bugman makes a good car replacement vehicle.

I'm glad I found this forum and I've already learned a lot about the FZ6R.

Here is the V Star 650 Custom.

Here is the Bugman 400 ABS.

I had a Yamaha Tmax, traded it in on the Burgman, that I LOVED, but the seat was so tall and wide that I never felt comfortable at red lights with my wife squirming around on back.

:welcome: Glad to have ya! You will love the FZ

Welcome, Timbo...

I just posted (today) on that other forum, since I went a similar route as you... hadn't posted there since last July...

Good luck with the FZ6R... I think you'll love it --

Ride safe --

New 2012 FZ6R Owner from Santa Clara California

Hi, I am a proud owner of a beautiful Pearl White 2012 FZ6R. I am 5'2 and it feels comfortable on the ball of my feets. Going to Corbin for a custom seat and hoping it will help drop the seat height to 29 or 29.5. I am trying to figure out all the mods I can do...... like eliminating the ugly tail signal lights and the front ones too.

Just sold my 2006 BMW F650GS, but still hanging on to my 2011 CBR250R. Bought the CBR in Sept. of 2011 and it has 12500 miles on it. You can say I kind of like riding. ;)

Looking forward to riding my FZ6R more so I can break her in. Very excited...!!!

Thanks,

Toni
