Tire install price?

I just got quoted $358 total OTD for front and back Pilot Road 2's installed. Is that high or a decent price? The tires are $238 but they want $120 to install them on the bike.

If your letting them do all the work, and not removing the wheels yourself, I would consider that reasonable. If you bring the wheels in to have the tires changed and balanced, then I would say that is a bit high. Last set of tires I had changed cost $35/wheel for mounting and balancing, but I brought in the wheels and did the removal and install myself. It sounds like your getting a pretty good, deal on the price of the tires. It could cost more to buy them online and take them in to be changed.

The last set I had done I got a good price on the tires and mount and balance was free. They were off the bike though. That doesn't sound too bad for a price. Did you shop around in Bend?

Not for install prices. This is at Pro Caliber. They claim the lowest tire prices in the "universe" haha.

I am gonna pick the tires up on my way home tonight as they have them in stock. I wont put them on for a little bit though as I am still confident in my stocks for now. I may do the rear when i have it off the bike when I do my rear spring

The north coast range of Oregon. Bought the bike at Pro Caliber in Longview,Wa. But I am thinking about a ride to Detroit Dam or Sisters toward the end of summer. Having right wrist surgery next week that will sideline me for a while.

I got the stock rear wheel, think bridgestone, done for $164 but that was bringing in the bike. Not sure if I got ripped off or not but surely a learning experience. A lot easier if you know how to remove and install tire yourself. Just my two cents

That's about right for a dealership. You take it to a private shop though and you'll see much lower prices. Full Throttle Powersports here does the rear for $35 and front for $30 on the bike. And he gets them done in less than an hour usually. Not to mention he's usually about 15-20% cheaper for the tires on top of it.

How many miles did you get on the old pair? I'm not looking forward to the day I have to pay $$ out for new treads, but hey thats the fun of owning a high perofmrance machine like ours.

I've got a little over 8k on the stocks. I could go another 2k maybe but that would be pushing it. The front would be ok but the rear wouldn't make it. The sides of the rear are ok, its just from being in VA and riding 110 miles a day pretty much straight roads its gotten pretty flat.

I will definitely check the smaller shops around here for prices. I already picked up the tires and they look great! Cant wait to get them on.

Yeah, I was jus' lookin' at mine... wondering how much they have left, guy I ride with has a Katana, he road his down 'till someone noticed "shiny bits", bad, hr had a 1 1/2" strip of steel (think he pushed it too far)...
The flat doesn't bother me much, just wondering what to expect on the tread.

Tire life is so dependent on not only what tires they are and your riding habits, but even the quality and type of asphalt you're riding on. High abrasive asphalt will wear out tires a lot faster. I got 4000 miles out of my stock tires.

Buying tires is a love hate thing to me. I love trying something new and feeling the grip of a good new set of tires. But the $250+ is a hard pill to swallow 2 or 3 times a year.

Around $30 sounds right for not at the stealership. They charge per hour not per work, and who knows? They could be done in 30 minutes and goof off for the rest.

Well that's actually kind of how mechanics make their money. They don't just screw around for that extra half hour. Each job is given a time value. Say an oil change is one hour. They get paid for one hours work if they do it in 20 minutes or 2 hours. So if they can get 3 oil changes done in an hour, they get 3 hrs pay for one hours work. It's not uncommon for a good mechanic to get paid for 12-14 hrs work in an 8 hr day. I have a lot of friends who are auto mechanics and they have booked up to 80 hours in a single week and only actually work about 40.

Local bike shop here said they would do it for $30 each wheel on the bike, or $20 each off. I may just have them do the fork springs and rear while they are at it and have the wheels off.
