I would have to say that does not count IMO. I would assume rider down is more of ther ther "Two types or diers list is directed to"

A load of times when i was young on the dirt, only once on the road a few years back, just trying to be a smart arse going into a corner too fast, very tight corner at that, you know that feeling when you go "oh shit I ant gonna make it" and everything goes so slow but nowt you can do? yup that was me.. my own fault being an idiot, but age has made me wiser,,,,,, sometimes !!!!
I tried to convince myself that was the case. Second day with my first moto I bumped it off the kickstand. It fell away from me. I couldn't pick it up, so I set it down gently.
Turns out the moto gods don't consider that going down. Never thought it would happen to me (especially the way it did) but I always PREPARED (ATGATT) for the fall. So I did honestly go down. And the one day I didn't wear my GoPro.........
Well, this happened yesterday so instead of lurking on the forum I figure a post is in order.
Like many of you the only reason I look at the weather forecast in the winter is to find an acceptable day to ride. It was supposed to be another amazing Colorado day with sunshine in the afternoon and near 70. After realizing my rear tire was down to the belt a quick run to the store the new tires on and I was ready to go.
Bike happily purring in the garage, check.

I'm waiting at the sub division stop sign for a break in traffic. Finding one I let out the clutch and start my turn. The next thing I know I’m on the ground wondering why my knee hurts and my bike is 3 feet away from me.
I decide because I'm still alive a car has not yet crushed me. Good news there so why am I laying there? As it turns out in with the weather at 30-34 degrees the road is cold, my tires are cold and worse yet they are new. As I let the clutch out there I must have given it too much throttle and the rear broke loose. I involuntarily put my leg to the right as the bike is falling and the two wheeled girlfriend spitefully attacks my knee as I topple like a bad Jenga game. Not a single scratch on my gear my pride however was mortally wounded.
Ride safe and keep the rubber side down!

Reason for my down as well. Instead of layering up for the cold, I've been taking the cage. Spring is around the corner though. If this thread continues, I bet we see different reasons for going down, and most of them going back to Twist of the Wrist topics like Survival Reactions.

Ive never gone down,but i did have a situation where a light changed on me and i was at a spot where its a quick dicision stop or go. So i tried to stop at about 50 mph had no time to downshift just grab and stomp and hang on. luckily i must have used perfect amount of pressure on both brakes cause i didnt skid or flip. I damn near puked my heart up though and had to pull over for a few secs. dont think i could do that again if i practiced it 100 times.
Sounds too intense at that point I run the light. Also a huge risk but I had this happen I ended up not being able to stop till mid intersection while other direction in green already so ill run it before I do that again.

I totally agree with u now. didnt want to catch a red and ticket. but will run next time. Rather pay fine than repair and medical.

Been down lots of times on dirt bikes, but only laid my road bike down at a standstill.. Only been riding for 2 weeks, so I'm being VERY cautious and accumulating good gear as soon as I can. I bought a great jacket, helmet, gloves, and ankle-protecting shoes before I even got on the bike, and now I'm looking forward to getting my pants and boots.
I commute 30-40 miles per day on the bike now, so I figure it's only a matter of time, but I want to be prepared if/when it does happen.. Also, I can't stress enough the importance of an MSF course! Even though I'd been riding dirt bikes for 13 years, there were so many things I never even thought about that were taught.-

Good call on your gear! I also commute quite a bit (50 miles each way about). I would recommend also getting some kind of Knee/Shin guards. I have Icon (forget the model but it is with the D3 padding in it). I was lucky when I went down to only have had VERY good roadrash where my pants ripped through and my jacket sleeve. But you could easily break your kneecap on a fall onto pavement.. That would cause some long term healing leading to a probable limp of some degree and eventual knee replacement when older.. Kind of a hassle but worth it in my mind. (my mom had knee replacement surgery - I dont want that). Would also recommend some good quality gloves that include full gauntlet to protect wrist a little more and have good finger protection. I upgraded from my A* SMX-2 (#?) to Held Air&Dry. Love them and feel safer with the thicker leather, slider superfabric on parts also. Now also have 1 glove instead of waterproof and regular having to be carried on questionable days.

Thanks for the awesome advice! For the pants, I'm getting a pair of Scorpion Monroe pants and the A* S-MX 5 boots. I think the pants might have knee/shin guards, but I'll have to check again. In your experience, do these seem to be good protection for somebody doing as much commuting as I do? If anybody else has any suggestions for the best possible protection, I definitely welcome it! I will be making a trip to cycle gear probably this weekend and using my 1st-timer MSF 15% discount, so I want to get in as much gear as possible.

I am not familiar with those pants. Those boots are VERY nice!! I was looking at those myself but the sizing felt different than the SIDI Vertigo's so I had to go Sidi. I really like my Sidi's but they aren't really practical for riding to work or on errands (wear the soles out walking in stores/parking lots). In those situations I have a pair of H-D Badlands boots (made by Bates I think). If you wanted you could probably save yourself some $ upfront right now and just get yourself a good quality pair of Oil resistent soled, over ankle leather boots and go back for the more expensive A*'s after you get anything else you find you need.
Pants with protection in them are ok, but I think I have read posts or articles before that they are mostly good in the riding position. Once your legs straighten a bit, then the protection isnt where it needs to be and may not do you any good. That is unless the pants are the style that are tight in the legs and that holds them to your knees.
One other piece of protection if you dont already use it is Ear plugs.. Protect
yourself fron Tinitus (sp?) and poss. hearing damage. Buy a container at home depot or something. Can get a large pack of foamies to use. I can usually get 5 days (10 rides) out of each pair, so very cheap. I think a container of maybe 60-100 cost me maybe $16-20.

Yesterday I was been down on the road. A scion tc hit me, didn't notice that I'm on his right side. The thing that really pissed me off is, why the heck is he turning right from the left lane (there are two lane) when he supposed to merge first on the right lane and then make a right turn. Thank God I wasn't hurt that much and so my bike. To think that I only have liability insurance. Now I need to buy new set of side mirrors and one rivet. The fairing has been out of place. I wsh I can figure out how to put them back on placed. My fz6r is not even one month old
