Hi everyone, this is my first post, even though I have been lingering here for a little while.

I just bought a 2012 fz6r the raven color scheme as seen above. The first thing I did was take the vinyl off the side of it. (I'm not a big fan of stickers on things) However part of the design goes on to the gas tanks and is painted on and under the clear coat. It doesn't look too bad, and it kind of looked out of place even with the rest of the vinyl on anyway, but I want it to be all black.

So my question is... if I order a black gas tank from 2011 fz6r that didn't have the pattern painted in, will it be the same size/shape and the same metallic black as the rest of the bike is now?

I know it will be expensive, but it's worth it to me. (and I'll have a pare tank) I'm trying to steer away from just having it repainted because aftermarket paint is never the same quality as factory paint, but if I have to, then I have to. If I end up having to get it repainted where can I order paint from so it will be factory color?

thanks in advance for any replies and help

The tank would be the same, but you could also just put black grips on, like Tech Spec or Stompgrips, to cover the decals and be functional, for significantly less cost.

tank grips seem like a good way to go, imo...

I thought about that, but couldn't find any grips that covered them. I'll try to find the threads and see... thanks for the responses though

Yeah, I found it on bikebandit but it's still over 500 dollars. I may just cave in and get it painted. :surrender:

I don't really like the look of the tank grips, and It will only be like 50-75 dollars for me to have it painted, as I know the owners of a couple body shops in town.

Factory paint is just so much more curred and resiliant than paint you have done at a body shop. Then I have to order the adhesive strips to put the plastic peices back on after they paint it, and then I have to let it cure for over a month... :banghead: The things we do to make our bikes look how we want them to...
