I am still trying to figure out what I did wrong. I just purchased a brand new 2011 FZ6R. The guy from the shop rode it home for me and I drove him back to the store. The biggest bike I ever rode was a KLR250. I went for a ride down the street and stopped at the stop sign. I was trying to make a left hand turn and I guess I gave it a little too much gas because the next thing I know is I am in the grass trying to straighten up and the back end comes around. I almost had control and I just lost it. I fell off the seat and in the process gave it some more gas. My brand new motorcycle threw me off and did a circle on its side in the road. I broke off the left hand mirror, bent the clutch handle and shifter, scratch up the crank case and put some scratches on the fairing. I had all of my gear on so I only got a scratch on my elbow and ankle. I was able to get the bike home and park it. This happened about an hour ago and I am still shaking. Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the mirror, clutch handle and shifter? I feel like a big idiot right now.
The shifter isnt that bad to replace either, just check the "riser rod" or whatever it is call to make sure still straight.
I just got my first bike 2009 FZ6r with 0 miles on it at the end of 4/2011, took the MSF and passed. I went on a long ride and then coming back home, about a mile from my house with 77 miles on it, I took a turn and I think I had too many things go wrong, maybe even going a little too fast for my level. Coming around about a 120-130degree turn (signage made it look like not even a 90 degree) I saw a manhole cover in the middle of my lean area and I tried to avoid it, in avoiding it, I caught glimpse of the curb and I think I target fixated on it thinking "oh crap Im close", then I dont know if I touched the brake, my foot went down or what happened but the next second I lowsided and face planted (thank god for the jacket, gloves and full helmet) but my bike followed. The clutch lever scraped and is a little shorter now, the left foot peg broke off, the shifter got bent something wicked, my mirror, cowling, fairing all scraped and blinker popped off. Was still able to ride home got roadrash on my knees and elbow when my Castle jacket ripped through. Now I have ATGATT, Icon knee armor under riding pants and very nice jacket (higher D count). Now I find myself scared of cornering a bit, not scared of riding but scared to take corners at what I would call good speeds, I find myself kinda slow on them
I fixed the shifter/pegs obvioiusly, crankcase cover. (now thinking of the case cover sliders on twisted throttle.) I am holding off on the cowling/fairing/mirror scratches until I get MUCH more experience under my belt, then I will consider replacing them. But my left cowling is not quite flush up at the top by my knee to the frame, think I might need a new bolt to hold it more flush. Also found my kickstand only "TOES" the ground, does not "flatfoot" so I think I need a new one of them also.
