My co-worker just saved my bike.

Kick stand was sinking into the tar.

Took a picture of the hole that made it.

I put a piece of wood under kickstand after. :wreck:

It just a matter of pounds per square inch on asphalt. I have had a hydraulic jack with a 6 inch square base push down into a two lane road while jacking up a semi. Concrete no problem---------asphalt problems.

I've had that happen several times to my Ninja 500. Its kick stand base was tiny and on hot days it would punch through asphalt in a pretty short period of time. Started to keep a foursquare box cover in my jacket pocket to use as a base for it.

Probably both.. looking again this is a patch they put it around a rain drain. That's probably why is soft.

I carried a little 4x4 piece of metal under the seat for that , everything here in NC is asphalt and on our 85 degree plus days , stuff gets really soft ..... you can always use a crushed can in a pinch

get the cycle feet... every mc shop has them just for that purpose... small hard plastic feet, about a buck for two or so

I hate the patch stuff they use here, I literally almost dropped the bike after it rained the other day . They have that on a turn in my neighborhood , I hit it and like the bike sunk I was like WOAHHHH

way too much... check with your local shop, you'll kick yourself... I picked up 2-3 for about a buck a piece...

works great on mud and gravel too

Was stationed in Mesa, AZ while in the Air Force a number of years ago. Valley of the sun. Asphalt becomes mush in 115 degree heat. Most everyone knew to have some ply wood handy or find the bike on it's side.

I've got one of those can openers that removes the top of a can without sharp edges. I keep a tin can top with me, for when it's hot. When the sucker gets too dirty or bent, I toss it in the recycle bin and get another. It's basically free and it's worked pretty good for me.

Another cheap option is a steel blank wall plate from a hardware store (looks like a light switch cover, but has no hole for a switch). Should be able to get one for $1 or less.

My co-worker's bike did that and fell over. I have a puck from Cycle Gear that I use on gravel, but I haven't had many troubles on asphalt. I still use the puck when temps get into the higher 80s just in case.

Between gas and time, by the time I go and come back to my not so local bike shop, I'm over the 6 bucks. Thanks anyway. I guess next time I go for something else I'll check that out. :thumbup: :wreck:
