I tried this LED headlight conversion. 15 watt and 1500 lumens. Seems to be almost but less bright than stock halogen. Anyone else done a LED headlight conversion?
Yes it is. Here is a link for where I purchased it. NEW Cree R5 LED 15W High Power 1500 LM Motorcycle Front Light Headlight E2 | eBay Goal is the reduce electrical consumption so I can use more headed gear. I might try a more powerful H4 bulb that uses 20w-25w and see how it is however I am happy with the current one. I am also changing all lighting to led. I did on my last bike and save about 60-80 watts with upgraded lights being brighter than stock.
It is the new big thing, you are right....not sure if it will replace HID or not. Currently it can't even compare. At 1500 lumen, about the same as a halogen bulb. It has a long way to go, that's for sure.
No problem. Honestly the LED headlight thing is a little ahead of its time. It isn't quite ready, the performance just isn't there to be much of an upgrade from halogen, but pales in comparison to HID. Not sure if it is just a fad or what, but I can say that LEDs are much brighter than they used to be.
Perhaps it's not ahead of it's time. After all the headlight I have is 15w which puts out 1500 lumens. Xeon is using 35-40w so I guess that could mean 3500-4000 lumens for a led/cree running at the same wattage. The main reason I got the led/cree was to not to have to deal with ballasts. The led/cree unit is also a sealed and waterproof unit.
