Highway/Freeway

I don't usually do freeways unless I have to, today I took the highway on the way to a friends because I was late but took the scenic route back hmome. The back roads make for a better ride anyways. Haha. But definitely I think it's more of your comfort zone and how confident you feel riding. Same way when u learned to drive a car, merging onto the highway and lane changing were the new things to learn along with leaving more space for the speed. I think the same kinda applies for motorcycles just you have to be watching out for wind and people lane changing while your in their blind spots. Other than that it isn't bad. Try it and go like one exit on a weekend when there is little traffic. Like I said I stay away from all the crazies on the free way.

I remember when I first started riding about 5 years ago to get the bike home I had to hop on one going 60+ MPH. It scared the crap outta me. The most important part is feeling comfortable on the bike and working on your awareness. Awareness is the biggest part of trekking along with a bunch of cages traveling at 70+. Don't rush it and wait until you feel you're ready. :D

The second day. I hate stop and go, so the highway is myway of choice. :D

Riding it back from the dealer (had no choice... no other way to get it home).
(Wasn't my 1st bike, so this probably doesn't count).

Stable as a rock on the highway... However, *always* ride within your limits, and your comfort zone... It's not so much the speed, on the highway, rather having the other cars around. So, first time out, stay in the right lane, and do just an exit or two to get acclimated...

Good luck... ride safe...

Yep rather be on the highway than the streets. The streets have to many people turning and pulling out in front of you. Dont get me wrong high speeds are a little scary at first. But never had a problem on the highway but almost lost my foot on the streets.

I had to ride mine 32 miles back from the dealership the day I bought mine, but I had previous bikes and riding experience.

Maybe just do a short run on it at first?

Took me about 2 months of weekend practicing to get used to freeway riding. Nowadays I hate how cars still try to cut me off getting onto the freeway... It's not like they are going to be any faster. And, their stupid rushing to get in front is just dangerous. I just dust past them once thru the on ramp anyways. Rat Bastards. Shrugs.

The 1st time I ever rode a bike was the 1st time I got on the freeway well interstate actually. The 1st bike I ever rode was my dads Yamaha v-star 650, just a cheep little cruiser he picked up used for dirt cheep. But I remember being told NOT to get on the freeway, so naturally that was the 1st place I went. That bike was not geared for high speed cruising plus it had some cobra straight pipes on from the precious owner which sounded horrible, but I remember gettin on the on ramp and hammering into it and running through the gears and then spent about 15 min on the freeway going 80ish with the bike screaming 1k away from redline. After that I don't think I went back on a freeway on a bike for years actually, I just never had a need to from where I worked or where I was riding. But now with the fz it's a lot more enjoyable, especially having a 6th gear.

Lol.......

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and went on the highway about 4 days ago for the first time. It wasn't all that bad, got up to 72 no problem. Takes a little bit to get used to the wind, but that's about it. And that's coming from someone brand new to motorcycles.

I do prefer backroads though as well. Already far more fun than the highway.

leem brought up a good point about break in. Because this was my first bike and i brought it brand new, I followed the break-in instructions to the "T". This mean you can only go about 60-65. Here on Long Island, I had to putt around in the right lane which sucked. IMO this is a bad lane to hangout in because people are tring to merge in, while others are trying to exit. Im sure the cali highways are probally worese than our 495. Even if you'r not hauling ass because yout stuck in slow traffic, just take it easy. It takes a little while to become confident on the bike and theres alot going on, on the major roads. I had my bike delivered because I didnt have my lisence yet. When I was able to ride, I just putted around neighboorhood roads for a day, and kept working my way up. I think it was about a week or two later untill I went on the expressway. But like everyone has been saying just go when YOU feel confrotable. Everyone learns at their own rates. Good luck&enjoy

1 week and I was hitting up highways/freeways with NJ's finest.

I remember the thing for me was shifting quick up to 3rd when entering. Once I could do that with some ease/finesse, the rest was pie with our bike. Just don't pop your heard up 70 mph+.

Oh yeah and another thing that use to scare the crap outta me was really windy days. I remember last season, really windy day, and I was going over a lil bridge. A gust literally blew me one lane over to the right. Thank god I was clear. Since then I have loosened my grip on the handle bars ;).
