I think that statement assumes a lot. Some people ride the 6R for years. I know people who started on a Rebel 250 (I started on one in 2008 and rode it for a year) and never move up.
I have been on my 6R since last April. I am happy with it and won't ever get a supersport. There have been a few occasions that I thought more power would be nice but I have never ridden on a racetrack, ride solo 99% of the time, and like the upright posture, reasonable insurance rates, and decent fuel economy of the 6R. Going from 0 - 60 in under five seconds is enough for me. I have taken it up to 125+mph once don't think I will do that again unless I am on a track because I would hate to get a ticket. Then again, I am primarily a commuter as far as riding goes and am 47 years old. I ride primarily because I enjoy it but I like to rationalize that has a certain amount of practicality and utilitarian function. The utilitarian aspect also makes it easier to justify with my wife.
lol... I'm one of those "Been on 6R for years" and mostly commuter, weekend camping trips guys... and I'm not a SS guy either.
That's why I startd with, if you do get the FZ6, take it easy... I have a couple of local riders who started on it, one girl got two wreckless tickets back-back, after we told her to slow it down... now she does track days for her need for speed.
I want something bigger just for a bigger stator, more comfort features, hard to run full heated gear, gps, cell, etc. with our little bike... I was eyeballing the F800GT at the IMS... that thing is a nice upgrade from the 6R, but still not a full tourer.... I def. have to get a test ride first though, as it is a P-twin... and again, finances won't let me get one for a couple more years... priorities and all with the family (OMG, my oldest daughter will be 16 this year.... watch out on the road! lol)
