Do you sit on you're bike while you fill it up?

Looks like almost a third sit on the bike all the time when filling up.

I know that's a way to get every last drop but I would fear the gas fumes catching on fire when my iphone went off or something. Not too mention, some of the pump handles leak a bit even after pumping. I'm too clumsy for all that.


A gas spill or fire would take away from my cool status.

Ahh, a trick question. I answered "always", but I NEVER do it without the kickstand down. I set my left foot down, right foot on the peg, the bike close enough that I can reach the pump. I always imagine looking really cool filling my bike... And yes, I always have the pump on the left, but that's where the kickstand is so you get closer to the pump that way. If I have to pull in to the other side, I need to get off the bike. I try not to do that.

OK. Ladies and Gentleman! Gather round, ya'll, gather round. May I present "How to fuel your bike, Buzzbomb style!"

After a long-ass many mile and hour run, we pull into a gas station. We're hurting for a smoke, a coffee and maybe a snack.

We circle the station, looking for shade or sun, depending on the ambient temperature. Once we find the desired spot we pull in and dismount.

Fuel level on the bike is low. Our coffee level is low. Perhaps our blood-sugar is low as well. Personally, this is where I partake of a nice coffee and a cigarette and a snack if it is warranted. I'm also likely to stretch my legs a bit, walking around and find the bathroom to drain the last coffee.

Coffee is done. Snack is done. Smoke is done. I gear back up and roll into the gas pump. I've got to take my gloves back off. Shit. I place them on my tank. Then the removal of the key from the ignition to the tank. Then I unzip my jacket and get my debit card out.

Slide the card in the pump, place card back in pocket. Remember to zip the jacket back up. I'm not leaving the bike for the fill. It needs to be standing up to fill it correctly.

After selecting my fuel type and removing the nozzle, I hold one hand under the end. I'd rather have gas drip on my hand than my tank. I put the nozzle in the fill hole of the tank and fill her up to about a half inch below the screen.

I then knock the nozzle around, trying to get the last drips out, and lift it from the tank with a hand under it.

I've just filled the tank to it's maximum useful level. At this point I can't put the bike on a stand, as the overflow in the tank would waste fuel. I've no intention of doing so.

At this point I'm planning to ride long enough to drop the fuel level to where I can set the bike on the stand without losing fuel through the overflow.

I do this on every fill. That's a massive wall of text to explain filling up, but there it is.

I like to get off so I can at least stretch a little. Always on the side stand off the bike. I have slipped a few times just pulling up and stopping. Plus I need to get off the bike to get my wallet out of my trunk or my riding pants anyways. And like buzz said, most times we fill up on rides, we like to park the bike and chill for a hot second. Gas can run out the over flow if filled upright to the rim then put on the side stand. (never done it myself as I do not fill like that, but seems logical).

Does anyone ever notice excess sand/pebbles/rocks near the pumps? I always notice that and hate it.

Hah! It becomes more funny when I imagine that video! LOL! If I'm fortunate enough to find a woman to ride with me, I'll hand her the cam, and take the time and effort to edit that video.

My mental vision of that video is absolutely hilarious in it's pure level of boring.

leave it on the kickstand here. I figure it is harder to control possible spillage when putting the nozzle in or out if I am also sitting on the bike. Right now I use one of the stations shop papertowels they have and folded up cover the nozzle right before going in and when taking it back out. Since doing that I havent spilled a single drop on the tank to wipe off and then rinse.
