Dent in Gas Tank

even nothing from a body shop? i find that hard to believe. Keep your eye open on ebay or something for a tank, they appear every once in a while.

Since its so close to the seat, just tell everyone that its a footprint from when you stunt :D Bert is offering his photoshop skills if you need to make some proof lol
 
It happened to me now, I just noticed it today before I left work. I pulled off the side cover so I could shine a light under the tank to double check that my hoses aren't kinked at all.Id admit it if they were, but they aren't.Everythings nice and straight connecting to my tank and I can move the slack with ease so nothings pinched.I'll take a picture soon, I was trying to ignore it today so it didn't bother me quite as much.

Mines a little different then the op, the area my knee presses against on the right side shifted in, the entire area..It almost looks like I pressed in my tank further using my knee to shift my body weight, I doubt that's what happened its just the best way to describe it.

It seems like people have had a lot of luck with these $15 dent puller kits from Harbor Freight, I watched a video of a guy pulling out a dent way worse then mine and in HF's reviews someone had luck with a motorcycle tank.I picked one up on my way home to try out tomorrow or sunday, I'll take before and after pics and post my results.People are claiming to get hail damage off of their cars using this, I haven't seen anything negative about it harming the paint or anything.Its worth a try

Well the glue gun kit that came with this things garbage, it stopped getting hot then the trigger broke, double malfuntion.But after getting a better hot glue gun the puller bar started working.It took me around 10 attempts total, 5-7 with the crap glue gune then after replacing it I only needed 3 attempts.The glue flowed faster out of the new gun, so I was able to glue to the tank faster before the glue cooled.

Here's the before pic of my dent

Heres one after the majority of the dent was pulled out, there's still one small indention left toward the bottom but I ran out of hot glue sticks for now.

I'm sure I won't have any problem removing the last few flaws now that its mostly fixed.I doubt this will work for the OP's dent but I just wanted to share in case anyone else has a shallow dent like I had.

I'm a little confused at how it happened.I know it had to of been a pressure problem, that's obvious.But I carefully checked my hoses, I blew air through them before anything and I could hear air whistle with the gas cap open.I looked for a pinched line with a flashlight before I lifted the tank as well.I haven't seen any evidence of a pinched line, but I'm guessing when I was modding over the winer I had them pinched temporarily.Heck I took my bike apart 5 or 6 times this winter, I'm sure it was pinched.Its just hard to believe I've ridden at least a month without noticing lol.

That is exacly what happened to me - I think it sucked itself in - same spot as picture
 
Did you have the gas tank full or empty. You got different glue gun? walmart??

Have you gotten it out yett?I was thinking about buying a 2nd dent puller kit so I could double my pulling power, or alternate pressure between them to kind of rock the dent free.But luckily mine finally popped free with one puller tool attached

No -I haven't got mine out yet - not sure if the two side suction cups are going to hit flat to get good pressure so the middle one can pull out.... But it work for u thats great. Did you use a different glue or glue gun then that came with the kit?

It actually wasn't a suction cup, I just called it that because the plastic piece you glue into the dent kind of resembles one, it comes with a smaller one shaped like a football as well.You'll be able to get it to fit, just use tons of hot glue.I was amazed how easily the hot glue peeled off.

When I finally got my dent out I realised what I was doing wrong, I was trying to glue that into the deepest part of the dent to pull the entire dent out from the center and the hot glue just wasn't strong enough.Its alot easier if you glue the tool on near the edge of the dent.Doing it that way it slowly pulls out the dent a little at a time.

Google "removing dents with hot glue" there's videos and tricks online.Its handy to research the technique, if the dent puller isn't quite strong enough people were making an additional t handle tool out of wooden dowel rods.Glue the dowel rod tool on near the dent puller then your able to pull on the dowel rod to take some of the pressure off of the dent puller.I ended up needing a better hot glue gun and more glue.I spent about $30 pulling out the dent this way.
 
OK - Thanks! that aproach sounds better - pulling at the sides first instead of going to the deepest part of the dent. Where did you end up getting a better hot glue gun? Never had a reason to use one before.
I sure do apperiate the time and effort you have helped me and others on the Forum :)

I got the dent puller kit from Harbor Freight for $15, I bought the better hot glue gun for $15 more at walmart.If you try the hot glue technique just be patient with it, I spent a few nights working on mine so it didn't frustrate me.But if air sucked it in then hot glue should be able to pull it the opposite way.Watch some videos on youtube about removing dents with hot glue, read comments and reviews to gain ideas and techniques.Like having a friend tap the dent with a RUBBER mallet to send a shockwave through the dent as you apply torque to the dent puller, or even glueing something next to it like a screwdrivers handle so you can pull on it while using the tool.Just research techniques and be patient, I even grabbed the dent puller with channellock pliers once and ripped it off as fast as I could lol, whatever gets the dent moving
