Once you have a clip come off, you'll never use a clip style master link again! Get a new chain with a rivet type master link.

With the coolant reservoir still full, I think it might be from something you were riding through.

A single pole, single throw relay has 4 terminals. 85&86 are the coil, 30 is common and 87 is normally open (N/O).
It sounds like you want to make sure that your accessories are not powered when ignition is off.
To do this, wire it as follows...
Terminal 85 to ground.
Terminal 86 to tail...
Sounds like a slipping clutch to me. If there's nothing wrong with the free play at the lever, check the push lever at the engine. Maybe it's binding?

On the PCV, there is a 'fix' for this. You can make it delay making fueling changes for 'x' amount of time after startup. I'm not sure if this is the case with the PCIII.
