Question Question about clicking noise during shifting

I purchased a low mileage (4800 miles) 2009 FZ6R. I've put about 1000 miles on the bike now and have been thoroughly enjoying it! I've noticed that sometimes I get a weird situation during shifting where if I don't remember to forcefully and deliberately shift from first to second gear, I kind of get stuck in neutral and there's a repetitive clicking as I try to upshift into second gear with the clutch disengaged. For clarity, I can feel the clicking in the shifter and it clearly isn't good whatever is happening. This problem is typically exacerbated if the rpms are wound out (8-10k) in first. Am I an idiot and doing something wrong here? I haven't noticed this problem in any other shifting sequence and I'm assuming its related to the farther travel needed to go from first, through neutral, into second gear. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you mean with the clutch lever pulled fully in, right?
It sounds like you're trying to shift without the clutch (intentionally or otherwise), which works fine in every gear above 2nd, but not for the 1-2 shift.
If you do, you'll typically get stuck in N, just as you describe. Why that would happen with the clutch lever pulled in is a bit of a puzzler for sure.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, for clarity, I mean with the clutch lever fully pulled in using all four fingers on the lever. I've never intentionally "clutch-less" upshifted in any gear on my bike. Perhaps something is funky with the tension in my clutch cable. I've noticed that my problem doesn't really seem to happen if I short shift (i.e. shift into second at relatively low RPMs). I may have the local Yamaha dealer take a look at some point.

That's odd indeed. I'm sure someone would know what that is right away. Unfortunately, that's not me. ;)
Hopefully it's as simple as a cable adjustment.
