So we had a SUPER DUPER RAIN/HAIL storm yesterday and.....well
First the rain started running down the sidewalk into my garage door which is in the basement....
i redirected water into the drain in the garage with blue stone engineering
then all hell broke loose... the drain stopped draining and began to SPEW WATER OUT INTO MY BASEMENT which is a garage and a half finished living room and two bed rooms
i began bailing water by hand with a small bucket and two friends with recycling bins lol it was pretty funny
after about 30 min water started going down the drain and the basement had only 1-2 inches of water in it
we bailed about 500-750gallons of water in that half hour
it was only a crazy 30-45min rain storm heres some pics

OH YA did i forget to mention we got home from a bike ride about 5 min befor this started lol it chased us all the way home i was doing the speed limit though!! i think?
The first pics are when i just got back!

I took no pictures of bailing but this is about 1 min after it started going back down the drain

FOUND MY DRIVEWAY!!!

These were pics taken just down the road 75 yards or so about 30 min later... im assuming this is why water stopped going down and started coming back up!

The poor P6RD Got her Toes wet =((((

A old coworker had that problem, is your driveway gravel?
If it is, you might be able to dig a trench, put a special drain pipe across the driveway that has holes across the top to let water in, and cover it with large gravel.

He had to rent a excavator, and trench completely around his house because he had clay duct in the slab that was flooding.
But if there is a way you can point the pipes end down a hill or towards a sewer it might help.
The water runs through the gravel, fills the pipe, and flows away

We are acutely renting but i will have to talk to our land lord!
as for the pipes she said this has happened a few times before soo maybe i can get some $ for installing them haha
The sump is at the other end of the basement infact the EXACT oposit corner lol

Haha yea, it be wort saving you rent $ if you can.

its called a french drain. it is perforated flexible pvc. just trench down16 inches or so lay the drain in, cover with a couple inches of rock or base and your good

My first apartment after marriage was bottom floor and built into a hill. It was awesome for heating and cooling. Had a big rain, and the whole darn place flooded with SEWAGE! We fought it with sump pumps and buckets and everything we could think of.

Turned out there was an overflow outlet down the hill from our place that was blocked. The property owner had claiming the city was responsible for and the city claimed it was the property owner's responsibility.

The landlord had to put us up in a hotel for two weeks, while things got cleaned up. The stuff had gotten into the walls, naturally. The smell of mold was so pervasive and overwhelming we moved soon thereafter.

Another city a couple years later. We were renting a townhouse that was on stilts above a creek in Macon, Georgia. We experienced what the weather people called a "100 year flood." Our floor was a good 10 feet above the ground, which sloped down to the creek. I went fishing off our front deck, during the flood. The water was all of three inches below my feet.

Lessons learned? Fight it if you can, make fun of it if you can't.

nice, it rained here for almost 2 days and the ground was so dry that everything just got soaked right up. My ditch never even got hardly any water in it.....

It was crazy the roads had like an inch of water on them but the ditches were just sucking the water into the ground as fast as it was coming off the roads.
