I was splitting lanes at 75 mph with traffic at about 55 to 60 mph. I decided to take a position in the carpool lane for a minute and adjust my helmet, scratch my nose etc. I started back into the center to start splitting again and a CHP motorcycle went by at 75 mph and I almost collided with him. All my fault for not looking good enough and lesson learned. He never knew I came close to him. So I followed him at 75 in a 70 mph zone, lane splitting 55 to 60 mph traffic and there were several other bikes ahead doing the same thing. It was like a normal thing...Doing 100 mph is over the line....While it is legal to split lanes in California, what you saw on that video isn't legal. Splitting lanes when traffic is stopped, or moving extremely slow is typical, at least north of the Grapevine. This guy was speeding and using his video camera to get his 15 minutes of fame. If he had come across a CHP, he would have been nailed if they could catch him. I watched the whole thing thinking maybe I was going to witness a really bad accident...... Another rider whom I hope has filled out an organ donor card.
WOW!!! That's pure douche baggery at it's finest. Them Brits should stick to tea and crumpets (no offense!). Although they did give me some Ozzy :rockon:YouTube - DOH! Knocking my mirror off and some tight standy uppy filtering (lane splitting)
I think you could almost start a "How not to lane split thread" ("filter"???) hahaha
I lane split at every red light. I am careful not to smack mirrors and if the gap is too narrow, I wait. If the light changes to green I still lane split through the intersection.Dart is right. If I did what the guy in the video did at the 2 minute mark and go sit at a red light between 2 cars, im fairly certain I would have a serious beat down by the time it turned green.
