what kind of sunglasses does everyone use under their helmet.
i have a pair of oakley half jackets but they are too wide to fit inside the helmet nicely. i ended up buying a smoked shield, but am still wanting to find a pair of sunglasses to wear under it.

any suggestions?

I bought some Big Dog sunglasses..I think that's what there called they are kind of like googles and they work great..except they have have a couple scratches now so I may have to get another pair soon. I did buy a multi layered smoke visor so I don't use they sunglasses as much anymore, but they do come in handy sometimes. :)

I wear glasses so I took my bike to the Lens Doctor and went in with my helmet. The lady there helped me find what I was looking for, a pair of glasses with straight bows which ended up being Oakley Jackknife 4.0 frames. You can get good Oakley products at any retailer. So, I ordered them up with the Oakley lenses and the newest transition lenses. These darken VERY quickly as well as returning to clear in short order once out of the sunlight.

Look for something with rigid straight bows in your favorite brand. Don't be embarrased to take your helmet into a store to test frames! It is important to get a pair you are comfortable with that fit in the helmet you wear.

Also, keep in mind that if you are looking for a new helmet at all, you should get that first, then fit a pair of frames using that helmet. :D

built-in sunvisor

I sometimes wear sunglasses, but most of the time I wear an HJC helmet that has in internal sunvisor. http://www.hjchelmets.com/
It's pretty nice; the visor slides down inside the main visor, so it won't get scratched (Unlike the Nolan version). It lowers and pops back up with buttons on top of the helmet, so you can lower/raise it while riding. (That was always my problem with sunglasses -- I live in the woods, and often don't remember to put glasses on until I get out in the open.) The chin guard raises up as well, which makes it easy to put the helmet on when I am wearing glasses.

I wear tinted safety glasses. I have a habit of riding with the visor up in the summer so I like to have something that is impact resistant.

i ride with a dark tinted visor and my joe rocket jacket has a spot for my clear visor if i end up riding in the dark.

80mph with the visor up and sunglasses = no bueno when a bug hits you.

Also, i don't know about you guys but if i wear son glasses ( i did before the tinted visor) there was an uncomfortable pressure on the side of my head from the arms and it resulted in a headache.... i swear i'm not a baby :)

I really hate wearing anything under my helmet. But there are times you just have to if you're heading out in the late afternoon with the sun right in your face but you're not going to be coming home until dark. I don't have anywhere to put a visor unless I wear a back pack just for that. And every pair of regular sun glasses I've ever tried under a decent fitting helmet just hurt like hell. However, I picked up some of THESE at Harbor Freight. They fit nice and close around my face and they're nice and thin to fit between my face and the cheek pads. Not as dark as my Oakley sunglasses I wear or my mirrored Icon shield. But good enough to keep the sun out in the late afternoon with a clear visor.

seems hard to pass up for $3.99 lol

thats the main reason i was looking for a different pair of sunglasses.
ive got a dark shield now. i havent been on when its completely dark yet, but im thinking i dont want to have a dark shield on if i do.

i dont know how all the people who dont wear helmets at all can do it. i needed to ride into the next town (about 10 miles each way) and i decided that sunglasses would be enough, no helmet. it didnt take long to realize that it wasnt a good idea. atleast i was able to lean behind the windscreen.

I bought a pair of Oakley Why 8. wire frames and they are sweet!

No pressure or discomfort. But...they do have a hefty price tag. I have the HJC FS-15 and doesnt come with internal visor. Then, when i dont need them anymore, i put them away in the internal pocket of my jacket. It beats carrying around two face shields. I also bought a lightly tinted face shield for the helmet that is enough to provide some blockage from the sun, but light enough that it can be used at night time without too much impact on visibility.

I've never had a problem wearing just glasses...i mean it does take some getting use to but didn't take long...I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT...but i quite love it...in fact I love it so much that i always make sure to have my helmet handy so that I don't come up with excuses to not wear it...even bugs don't bother me...although, one huge one did hit me once, scared the crap outta me, but glasses held fine (cheap $10 pair with shatterproof lenses that I got from my dealer)

I found a couple pair of Guard Dog glasses on clearance at CycleGear. One pair was $12, the other was $4. They fit nicely in the helmet without cutting off my peripheral vision..

I wear prescription glasses, so I was fortunate to have thin ones to begin with. I also have a tinted visor, but sometimes I need more when I go out in the middle of the day. My Oakley Fives fit just fine in my Shoei helmet.

RayBan "Aviator" wire frame. Not cheap, but I've had 'em over 20 years. Real glass lenses, never scratch.
I'd say that's the proper smiley.
