Quick Easy Rim / Wheel Stripe Installation Method

After my first attempt at putting on wheel stripes ended in a down syndromian result, I decided to go back to the drawing board. When I mentioned my ineptitude to my brother in law, he told me about a trick our other brother in law showed him in putting on other types of decals. With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try. Below is the method I got from him.

It turned out better than I could have hoped. Looks perfect, and if you don't want to wait for it to completely dry overnight, you can use a heat gun or blow dryer to dry them out.

Edit: And I do realize I had the overlap direction backwards in my video. I did put them on in the correct direction. Just a brain fart.

Since Rook and others have been thinking about putting on rim stripes, I thought I'd give this thread a :bump:

Good find on the foaming windex.Iv used the same technique installing dirtbike and atv graphics.
I usually just use warm soapy water.409 works well also.But I havent tried it with wheel stripes yett.

Just did it yesterday with the foaming glass cleaner and it was a breeze! Glad i saw this cause i was gonna just wing it without getting anything wet at all which would have ended in a disaster! I used reflective rim stripes (red) on my black fz6r and had a 2 extras left over. I used the one that had a yamaha racing logo on it to put around the bottom of the back of my helmet. Looks great and ties the whole project together. I'll post pics soon!

Yes... I also took NastyButler's advice on the youtube video. It was extremely helpful. I went with a thinner tape, but the method was the same and I really like the result. Thank you!!

soapy water in a spray bottle works a world of better...

I've done plenty of vinyl related project to know that you are much better off using soapy water. Cleaners like he is using are okay but can evaporate too fast under certain circumstances and leave you with some issues in the end.

There is a reason that any vinyl shop you walk into has a ton of water bottles hanging around with soapy water in them. It's a tried and true method and allows plenty of time to position the tape properly.

Yeah, I was going to say, water with some dishwashing soap in a spray bottle works just fine.

50 parts water to 1 part baby shampoo I've been told is the perfect mix for this

I used the water/soap method for vinyl graphic overlays on my Z28. Some of the pieces were tiny. Soapy water works great so you can constantly reposition. Gotta get me some wheel stripes, but think I'm gonna wait till it's warmer to put them on. LOL! Thanks for the write up Nastybutler.

I wonder if it would work well with the huge bottle of Invisashield Application spray I have. Seems like it would be a good fit logically. Thanks Nasty! I also went thru the inital process without looking for help, ended in a pile of balled up stickers and much yelling at the plastic roller thingey.
