PCV and the O2 Sensor

So I got the PC-V and went to install it, but for the life of me, I can't find the O2 sensor to disconnect. The picture on the instructions isn't very clear and I've looked all over and can't find anything that even looks remotely like it. I'm assuming that we actually have an O2 sensor.

The install is incredibly easy except for this one thing

Any ideas?

Well, I gotta tell you - this is incredibly baffling - lol. I have looked everywhere and this thing is just hiding or plain gone. I looked at the photo in the instructions and the funny thing is - parts of it doesn't look like what I have. The main connectors are there, but look a bit different in the close-up than they do in the shot before it and the surrounding wires and such are not the same. So I'm thinking its the wrong picture or the connector has been tucked way down somewhere that I just can't see (but like I said, I've been all over that area a couple of times and no luck). So tomorrow I'm going to see if I can find where the O2 sensor is on the exhaust and disconnect it there. If not - call PC in Vegas and see what the tech guy can tell me on Monday. Most of the shops in this area are closed Monday, so if Vegas has no answer then Tuesday it is.

If any of you with a shop manual could see if there's a location specified or a picture of it, it sure might be helpful

Post a scan of the picture that is confusing you and maybe one of us could give you the location. But I have replaced the stock exhaust, and there is no probe for O2 or A/F readings. :don'tknow:

There are differences in the wiring to the connectors in Fig B and Fig C is just different that what I find under my fuel tank - the black connctor on the right just isn't there, nor is the item just under it. Also the wiring harness (looks like a thick T) isn't like that either.

Since you didn't find one on the stock exhaust, maybe there isn't an O2 sensor? Or would it be connected to a different system?

Hmmm....

Does it say that you need to install an O2 sensor? If that is the case, you are going to have to drill a hole in the exhaust, weld a bung and buy an O2 probe for it.

So the installation instruction pictures don't look like what we have under our tanks. That is strange. I'm not sure what to tell you at this point. I do hope you get it figured out though.

strange.. there should be the sensor in the exhaust at least my XJ6 Diversion has it and its preety visible..

Ok, how many plugs are attached to the PCV?

If there are only two plugs, one with 4 pins and one with 6 pins, then you don't need to worry about the O2 sensor. Just plug them into the stock wiring harness and you are done.

I don't know if it's just me, but those two figures almost look like they are from different bikes. They just don't seem to look the same.

So you weren't able to find a black connector coming from the large T-shaped wiring "knot?" It may be wrapped with a black insulator. If you can't find it, then I would have to say there isn't one. Without an O2 probe in the exhaust, I don't know where else it would be.

Well - its hooked up and I'm going for a ride to find out how it runs

Yeah - the picture thing has me COMPLETELY baffled so a call to them on Monday is a definate.

If anyone with a shop manual can actually confirm that there is an O2 sensor, please do!

I'm not sure whether a ride will tell you if anything is wrong. The PCV comes with the factory map, so it will be the same as stock.

Welp - ran like a champ for about 20 mins and then I got to an open road and opened it up through the gears. It felt amazingly smooth and strong throughout! But... when I came to a stop it stalled and now stalls intermittantly when ever I back off the throttle and seems to run a lot rougher. Guessing the PV-5 and the O2 sensor (and whatever internal mapping its connectted to) are going against each other.

So disconnecting the PC-V, going back to stock and see if I get back to normal. Then I re-begin my search to find the dang O2 sensor.

Sigh...

Well I solved part of the mystery - the photo showing the O2 sensor and it's position is for the FZ6. At least it's the same pic in the instructions PC supplies for the FZ6.

I wonder if they ever even took a picture of the FZ6R...

I knew something just wasn't quite right. So have you found the O2 sensor connector on your bike yet?

nope - no where to be found and I'm not going back in there until I find someone who's done the install and can tell me where it is.

Calling PC in the morning to see what they might suggest...

OK - mystery solved, troubles continue...

Per Yamaha - "there is NO O2 sensor on the 2009 FZ6R."
Per Power Commander - "hmmmmmmm - guess when we did the manual we thought the FZ6 and the FZ6R were close enough"

And when I asked if they thought both bikes should have the same map (because my bike is running like crap) the tech mumbled about a bit and then said they wouldn't have assumed that.

So tomorrow morning I'm to hookup my laptop, call them and together we'll go through the map.

Should be interesting and I'll be sure to update here.

How in the world does the fuel injection work without a o2 sensor?? Wow this is new technology to me!
