Noob question about fuel tank removal.

I will be getting my block off plates monday and need a quick answer. I did a search on the thread and came up with nothing. I see there are threads of "how to install" but the question hasnt been answered.

So.......
If i have to remove my fuel tank, do i have to take all the fuel out first? i do not want gas to be spilling all over my floor when i do the removal to replace the block off plates. TIA

With my last bike, fuel went EVERYWHERE. For the FZ6R, however, I removed the hoses, just a few drips.... put the tank somewhere safe and put it back on when I was done.

Another reason to love this bike!

fuel pump is in the tank... shouldn't have much but the few drips mentions... I would still run it as low as possible, or siphon it out.... just so you're not lifting 4 gallons of fuel (8.6 lbs per gallon...)

i just filled up 2 days ago. gotta do some riding until i get my plates!

You really don't need to remove the tank. Just lift it up and tie it to the rear grab bar. When I initially installed mine I removed the tank. When I took them off and put everything back I just lifted the tank as mentioned. There should be plenty of room to work with it tied up. If you do remove it there will be a little fuel that drips out, just have a paper towel/rag ready.

Yeah, you should be fine. I put the AIS back in after I removed my block off plates. You can pull the tank back pretty far. I just used some speaker wire I had laying around. I just threaded it through where the bolts go on the front and tied it to the rear grab bar.

What everyone else has said, LOL. It's easy to remove, but usually no reason to. I've changed the plugs a couple times, synched the throttle bodies, etc., without removing the tank.

I just use a piece of metal I've got with a rubber boot on either end from some crutches to prop the tank. Others use a length of wood. Tieing it back to the grab bar is a pretty good idea. I haven't heard that one before.

Or just yank it. I haven't but many have said that the fuel dripped onto the bike is minimal. I just haven't had a need to.

Heck, the tank's the easy part. Getting those black plastic pieces that reside below the handgrips back into the fairing? That's the fun part!
