Chuckwalla is supposedly a nice track. Haven't been out that way myself. Some friends are going to chuck Walla next month. But I don't really want to go until I can figure out how to transport bike. I might sit this one out cuz my van jut broke down yesterday. LoL. Sigh.
Of all the ones around the area, it's the one with the least problematic roads for towing something. Banning Pass isn't necessarily all that fun going uphill when hauling something, but it's gradual and pretty straight, so nothing like going over the Grapevine or Cajon Pass.
If your van's out, I'd seriously consider just getting the small U-haul cargo van for a couple of days. You will pay for miles in addition to the daily rental fee, but probably less than cost of a rental, plus a hitch install, plus the wear-and-tear on your vehicle. If you think you'll do it a lot, you can re-evaluate what you need and whether you should rent/own, etc.
From what I recall, all the U-haul vehicles have some sort of attachment points. Might be on the sides rather than the bottom, but should be workable. Go to the rental place in advance, check one out, figure out what you'll need and make sure to have the straps and anything else you need in advance. Even a rental pickup should work if one of your friends has a ramp and they are willing to help you load it. There's plenty of video evidence on the web for why you should not try to ride it up or down the ramp.
