Fz6r engine build

Look: my Yamaha fz6r is paid off, Insurance cost half on this vs an r6/zx6r/gsxr600, Warranty has expired and I’m not planning into getting into another loan. So with that out the way, are there high compression pistons thats bring the 11.8 to 12.9? Does the fz6 cams fit directly into the fz6r’s head? Do i have to do the advance timing mod or will the Power commander 5 be enough? My budget would be around $6000 since that is literally the cost to insure a r6 in canada before adding the fact i would have another loan *shiver* never again.

Did you try to find a 2003-5 R6 engine with ECU?
FZ6 cams bolt right in. All you need to do is machine the FZ6R cam gears to fit the FZ6 cams. Just need to open the bore like 1mm if I remember well. Exhaust cams timing mark goes right in, Intake need to be advance (CW) to 102 degree. About 3 degrees from stock. Slot the gear 0.008" per degree... 0.025" will get you close enough. That will bring the power band a little lower, peak ponies were around 10500RPM and pulled pretty solid from 4K up. Advance timing mod is an easy & cheap one to do. PCV and a good dyno tune, airbox mod and a good open exhaust.

That should give you some spare change to invest on some suspension upgrade. Racetech has something ready to go for the FZ6R. Send them everything for rebuilt/mod. Set front and rear sag for your weight.
