Few questions from dad of new owner

My son bought a brand new 2015 a week ago today. He's been riding for 6 years and is a car mechanic but isn't big on researching things on online forums. I am :)

I've been doing some research and I have some general questions:

The shogun frame sliders seem to be well thought of here. I like the look of the t-rex sliders, the multiple attachment points look good but there seem to have been issues with quality control. Have they been sorted out?

I've seem some Yamaha branded sliders that require cutting - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-36P-F11D0-V0-00-Frame-Slider-FZ6R/dp/B005C57F9M"]Amazon.com: Yamaha 36P-F11D0-V0-00 Frame Slider for Yamaha FZ6R: Automotive[/ame] but I can't find any opinion on it. Is anyone familiar with it? We've put cut sliders on his old R6 so that isn't a problem.

The t-rexx spool adaptors look interesting - http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?item=276 Are they the best option for spools? I've got an old Suzuki rear stand from my first vstrom that has worked for multiple bikes including his R6 and I think it will work with these.

He is keen on putting flush mounts on. I found these - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GJY78YM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2T4WH4BWTTTVA"]Amazon.com: 2009-2015 Yamaha FZ6R Flush Mount LED Dual Ciruit Running + Turn Signal Lights: Automotive[/ame] Do they look reasonable?

The salesman tried to infer he needs to get the first service done at the dealer. Am I correct in assuming if we document what we do and keep receipts of filters/oil/etc he will be ok?

I looked at the FZ6 in 2004 and 2013 when I bought my vstroms and almost bought one then. If this black and red beauty had been available then I might have picked it up. It is a great addition to our garage and I look forward to interacting with people on this forum to find out more about it.

I have the shogun frame sliders they seem a little plain compared to the trex sliders but are still quality, they certainly get the job done and took maybe all of 10 minutes to install. I have those same flush mount signals and love them, the LEDs are not dots more like dashes. Have had mine about 3 months now without issues, though they are not totally flush mount but rather are very low profile and sit atop the fairing.

I had installed the motodynamics flush turn signals, but did not like me much because it have poor front visibility, so I installed a non flush type LED turn signals (vader style).

Regards!

Thanks for the input guys, it's much appreciated.

Another question has occurred to me. Is the 2015 FZ6R similar enough to the 2014 that 'in general' most parts will fit? I see on a number of part/equipment sites the 09-14 bikes are grouped together.

Is the 15 not included because it is new and the site hasn't been updated or is the bike different enough from the 14 that parts 'in general' aren't compatible?

all the fz6r are virtually the same, just a couple changes. I think they changed the grab handles for the passenger, that's about it.

Last night we ordered the shogun no cuts, the t-rex spool adapters, a tank pad, some k&n oil filters, and a new helmet visor so he can see where he is going :)

He decided to wait on the flush mounts till the next round of farkles. Doesn't bother me, never been keen on them. Of course, I guess looks aren't that important to me, I ride a vstrom :D

Thanks for all the advice and ideas, till next time.

Here is my 2 cents. Those flush mounts are really small, i used these, they are dirt cheap and have lasted over a year so far with no issues, you can get them in clear and smoke and a lot more visible but i still put LED strips in the scoops like Scott said, in fact got the idea from him. All that stuff is pretty simply but i will say the wires on these lights are really thin and a pain to work with. As for sliders i love the Trex on my bike they look 10x better than the Skateboard wheels that the shogun look like. I did not have any problems with trex in fact they sent me some red rings a couple months later for free. I have heard others had problems with bolts being wrong size but mine went on in a snap. I would get the no cut which ever ones you went with.

If I can find a used copy of a service manual, what would be the oldest year that would work with a 2015?

I bought a download able copy for like $5. If you search you can find a cheap download. They're all the same. My manual says 2009 even though I have an 11. No difference mechanically for any year.
Lots of 2009 manuals out there. Would either of these cd's be ok?
