Exhaust Decibels (dB)

I downloaded a decibel meter app for my phone (not extremely accurate, but...) the other day to see how loud the "free" exhaust mod was. The only problem was, I didn't do a baseline for the stock exhaust before I did the mod.

Anyways, I was thinking this would be a good thread for people to post the decibel level of their particular exhaust mods so that everyone could compare. What I can do is, when you post up the dB's for your exhaust, I will edit my post to include it to the list so its consolidated all in one for ease of viewing. I figured this list will help out those who wish to mod but don't know how loud they want to go. So, if you have an Iphone/Droid/whatever, you can download a free decibel meter app and get a reading of your exhaust. It would probably also help if we get three or four different readings for the same type of exhaust mod and then get an 'average' from that. Thanks all.

**When taking the reading, I pointed the mic towards the outlet at approximately 12-15 inches, until I had a consistent reading.

How far away from the exhaust did you do your reading from or where did you set the phone. Might be nice to try and keep it as consistent as possible. I'll get a reading from my TwoBros tomorrow w/o the tip in :)

Could you also let us know where you took these readings? As in a Garage, outside, underground garage, etc... I know my bike is quiet outside but when i'm in my underground garage and the sound is bouncing around the thing sounds like a beast even at idle.

App I used: Sound Meter by Android Boy, which was free.

I tried to look up Iphone and Droid apps that were the same, but only found a couple and they weren't free. So, I'm not sure how accurate this is gonna be. I also tried to compare different apps, with my phones ( i have both), but they were +/-5 db's different.

I took the reading at idle about 12-15 inches from the end of the exhaust and moved it around until I had a semi-steady reading of 93-94 dB's.

In the EU the decibel measurement is taken [i think i am correct] at 45 degrees to the exhaust outlet @1 metre. On the XJ6/FZ6R this would be to the side of the bike also as it is perpendicular to the outlet. If that makes sense. I guess the US method of standardisation is similar (though EPA/Cali/state is even more anal than over here). Don't know if that helps.
