Purchased a new Black 2009 Fz6r today and will be picking it up on Sat. I am really excited about the bike and it's potential. My previous bike was a 2006 Honda 599 Hornet ( naked inline 4 )that I purchased in 2008. I didn't realize how good the bike was until i sold it. They are hard to come by and secondly I didn't want to buy the same bike again. This has happened to me more than once. Before I bought the Fz6r I test rode the Monster 696 and quickly ruled it out. A 2009 Monster was going to cost me $ 10 000 Cdn. plus taxes. I looked at the new for Canada Cb600f ( Faired 599 ) and it would have cost me almost $ 10 grand plus Pdi/ Freight and taxes. Besides the Honda is about 40 pounds heavier and has somewhat dated 80's styling. I couldn't get past the look of the Suzuki faired Bandit 650 and the kawasaki Er6n is a cool looking bike but it is a twin and lacking some horsepower and I'm not sure about the build quality or re sale. I have owned many bikes in the past , Honda f4 , F3 Monster 750, Suzuki V-Strom and Suzuki Sv 650. Bottom line after riding the Yamaha i soon realized this bike suits me in so many ways. I am 54 years old and only 5'4" tall. The Yamaha is comfortable, the clutch is light and responsive , the inline 4 is super smooth, the power is more than adequate, the fully fairing looks great the windscreen offers decent protection , should i say more? Last but not least i just finished reading quite a few reviews from the British bike magazines and they absolutely love the bike. In fact the new "Bike" magazine states that the 2009 Yamaha R1 is not the best bike Yamaha built in 2009 , but the title goes to the Fz6r. Can you tell I'm excited. Hope to get some great ideas from the website. Cheers for now.
P.s I paid $7200 Cdn for the bike plus tax...no other Fees ....
Am going to ride the bike for a while before I decide to lower the bike a bit....( Roaring Toyz lowering Link )
Cheers for now.

Congrats on the new bike, good to see another canadian on the forums. You got an awesome deal on your bike, I paid $7550 plus taxes.

Coming from a Ninja-500R this bike is lightyears ahead in refinement, smoothness and styling. I'm sure you'll love it

You sound like someone with real experience! Not another biker kid who thinks that the FZ6R is a sheep in wolf's clothing, etc.

You're the same height as me, though I think I may have a smaller inseam then you... haven't really measured mine. I did lower mine with the link but I am doubting RT the kickstand.

Thanks for your reply. Not sure I understand what you mean by the kickstand...is the Roaring Toyz lowering link a good idea....How about the stiffness of the suspension with the link. Cheers

sounds good dude, its fairly similar to the hornet, with slightly better fuelling but a little less power.

Ride safe/

Thanks for the reply, Fz6r also has fuel injection, a full fairing and hopefully should be more versatile with the extra wind protection for some light touring.
cheers

when you lower it you can just cut the factory kickstand and have the base welded back on, its a cheaper alternative to the roaring toyz kick.

Yeah you can, but in case you sell the bike, or decide to go to the track and raise it back up and ride with one leg posted up.

I think you'll enjoy it, great all around workhorse that's fun. Went out couple of hours today, found out not in riding shape having to stretch legs out often. The sciatica probably didn't help much either, this flair-up has lasted over a month. Riding the bike is more comfortable than driving though.
