Are you sliding the clip around or pushing it over the pin?

In the past I have used a screwdriver to push on the loop end of the clip

Haven't even got to that point...can't get the side plate all the way on.
Have you tried speaking with the supplier as yet?
Surely it shouldn't be that difficult to get it to go together,
maybe they supplied the incorrect size O-rings?

Thanks to bleeding appearently you have to squeeze the side plate on with the chain breaker tool... understandably clearences are extremely tight due to the high stress nature of what we are working on.
leem is right. Most master links have to be "pressed" on with a chain tool. Most chain breaker kits have the adapter plate to press on the master link plates
