First I must explain my wife and I are in our late fiftys so we probably do not fit the profile of people who should be riding sport bikes .
Last weekend we rode to Carlos Texas a few hills and a few good turns . At one turn there was a guy fighting with his Harley to get through the turn literally fighting the bike . My wife rides a 300 ninja and I ride a new 6R My wife gets impatient as hell and just blows by the poor guy .
Later we see the guy at Yankees the bar we were headed to he went off on how people who ride crotch rockets scare him when they are around him and we are unsafe riders.
We didn't think we did anything wrong but apologized anyhow. Then an older lady sat down across from us and asked my wife why she rides a crotch rocket. Wife told her she used to ride a HD FatBoy but got bored with it. And thought the bike was too big and heavy for her. The lady told her she always sees people riding Crotch rockets stupid and unsafe . What a stigma for this style of motorcycle , we do not ride fast and always try to be courtious ..........hard to explain I think the next bike will be a Whizzer

I've run into this a few times but eh, oh well. Not too long ago I was with a few friends and we stopped at a local billiards hall and while we were parking the bikes (mix of cruisers, sport and super sport this tatted up old guy comes over and says wow, what with those nice bikes doing mixed in with those damn crotch rockets.

My friends father who rides a Harley and is Italian just told the guy to take his opinion and walk with it. I was surprised that even said what he did as he's normally a very reserved man but I guess it touched a nerve with him that night.

The guy starts saying he was just joking around and got all submissive. It was quite entertaining really.

The other funny thing is that I will take 1st gear on the Ninja up to the speed limit and then I get cops following me for the next 5 miles but when a cruiser does the same they ignore it... It's hilarious to get profiled all the time.

I don't pass cruisers much anymore, I give them their space and allow them to enjoy their ride - I don't run up behind em and pressure em, its rude. I will just slow down and let them get ahead, then I cruise slow on the straights and hammer the corners while letting them stay well ahead.

Just cause we ride sportbikes doesn't mean we have any more right to the road than they do, I have no animosity towards cruiser riders, they are likely just as passionate about what they are doing, just cause we can go faster, that gives us special rights?

I see all motorcyclists as a single group, sportbikes are the minority round these parts, I get to have my fun, and being a good member of the biking community is an important part of the enjoyment.

I don't think your wife should have passed that guy, let him have his space, and be patient - we always get our chance to go fast, having self control is a big part of motorcycling.

Italians have a certain direct approach way about them. They have a short attention span so when one focuses on you, it's best to submit regardless of the circumstances until their attention moves on to something else. If they focus on you too long, you could be in some serious non-civilized trouble. If they are actually Sicilian, It's best to just put your pride aside & run.

PS: I'm half Italian, half Sicilian...

Most of my friends are italian, so I'm used to it.

My boys day though is not the normal typical italian type, he's normally more laid back and chill. It was kind of shocking to see him blow up though, even if it was a mild blow up.
