2013 Super Ténéré Worldcrosser

Thinking about a new bike... I'm probably going to keep my FZ6R... just rolled 35,000 miles on it. However, it would be nice to be able to go anywhere, dirt, sand or street...

What do you guys think of the new 2013 Super Ténéré Worldcrosser? The bike looks cool, from the reviews it sounds like a great dual purpose adventurer bike. But I wanted to find out if anyone in here has one or has ridden one before.

I like the go-anywhere idea. I've never been on a Super Tenere, but at 575 lbs I bet there's some places you wouldn't want to take it. I have a DRZ400S for my go-anywhere. At 300 lbs it's a beast for a MXer, but would make a lightweight, reliable adventure bike. Oh, and you could buy two DRZ's for the price and put your wife on one!

I rode the 2012 at a Yahama demo day this spring. It's a solid feeling bike and it didn't feel heavy as far as maneuvering. I too contemplated the idea of having the FZ6R and a Super Ténéré in the stable for touring on some of the more rugged routes. But that was back in Spokane. I haven't seen much in the way of rough forest routes to good camping here in Wisconsin yet.

I rode on one during the 2012 demo in my city. I wasn't impressed... looks were intriguing at first but the ride is far from comfortable. Sadly didn't get to test out it's off road capabilities Pansy ass demo guys... it's like I don't own the bike or something. teehee

It seems like this is a bike that requires alot of saddle time to explore its performance and justify.It depends on what you want in a motorcycle.I like it alot, I just cant afford one.

I had a customer buy a 2012 DL 650 and came in on the Demo days here and rode the Tenere. I rode the FZ8 as well as the R1, and I was SUPER glad to get back on my FZ6R afterwards. I could see myself on the FZ8, I just felt a little cramped, but that is besides the point. He told me that his DL650 is a lot more comfortable than the Tenere. Those were his .02.

Keep in mind the ST comes with adventure tires, instead of knobbies like the Ktm.The TC and ABS are supposed to be pretty amazing.I remember one review I watched, the bike dumbfounded the test rider on mud.

I really haven't been able to find an informative article about the design/conception of the Super Tenere.But I see it like this.

In the Dakar Rally, Yamaha and Ktm battled for decades creating a agile yett stable big bore.The wr450 is more than capable of competing against bigger bikes now, and it just wasn't worth the effort of trying to compete with Ktm's big singles.They are starting/trying to change the Dakar to a 450cc limit now.Instead of spending that $ on a new bike every year to compete with Ktm.They have been experimenting with things like the 2trac system instead.

Instead of wasting everything Yamaha learned with Yze750t.They did what they had to do to compete in a new world of dual sports.Ktm has been trying to follow homogalation requirements while creating adv bikes.While Yamaha is free to make it a better all around performer, with increased reliability.The 1200cc engine wasnt an attempt at creating a big bore twin.Its how they matched the power output of the 690-990 series, while increasing reliability.

But for those same reasons.I bett the 1200cc Super Tenere gets alot less aftermarket support than the Ktm.

Yamaha has helped rookies race for years.They are just trying to make a model for everyone now.If you want the performance of a full blown 750cc rally bike without the hassle.The ST is a great option.

They look like a good bike.
Theres an inscrutable pricing rort/gouge for adventure bikes at the moment.
Maybe there's a triple Tenere with lower price and even lighter next year ?

I guess Stephane Peterhansel outgrew rally bikes all together.I just stumbled on this vid looking for Tenere info.I like the pic at the end where hes resting with the front tire buried.
